BMW M TEAM WRT ENDURES TOUGH TIME IN TEXAS 🇺🇸
The FIA WEC Lone Star Le Mans proved a difficult challenge for Team WRT’s BMW M quartet. Between a lack of pace and tough penalties, only #15 managed to finish in a points-scoring position.
A puncture for #69 early in the race caused the cockpit to fill with smoke. Thanks to great skill from Tony McIntosh, he managed to bring the car back to Circuit of The Americas pit lane in one piece, briefly jump out to recover, and then return to complete his double stint. Unfortunately, he entered pit lane while it was closed. The incident was deemed an emergency stop, and #69 was handed a stop-and-go penalty.
There was no such luck for #32 either, as a failure of the FIA-mandated RPM sensor brought Darren Leung into the pits for repairs. The significant loss of laps saw the trio unable to fight for a points-scoring result.
The Hypercar duo of #15 and #20 struggled for pace throughout the weekend, but maximised their potential to come home in P8 and P12 respectively.
#20 holds on to the lead of the drivers’ standings, tied on points with Toyota, while BMW sits second in the manufacturers’ championship.
