# # Heads up -
Around 30% of all crashes are rear-end crashes - watch your distance.
In a 110km/h speed zone it will take approximately 1km to safely overtake a B-double truck that is travelling at 100km/h.
Driving involves risk and safe drivers aim to reduce and manage their risk by making good decisions and taking responsibility for their behavior when driving.
# # Safer speeds -
Speed is a key factor in crashes and road trauma. Exceeding the speed limit increases the likelihood of a crash.
# # Alcohol and drugs -
Don't mix driving with alcohol or drugs (including medicine). To avoid the risks plan ahead.
# # Fatigue -
Fatigue is often ranked as a major factor in causing road crashes. Driver fatigue is particularly dangerous because one of the symptoms is decreased ability to judge your own level of tiredness.
# # Mobile phones -
Using a mobile phone while driving impairs your driving performance through distraction and increases the risk of crashing by at least four times.
# # Dangerous behaviors -
Inattention and driving with attitude are just two dangerous driving behaviors that place the safety of you and other road users at risk.
# # Safer vehicles -
Buying a car, whether it's for you or your child, is a big responsibility. Driving a car that has recognized safety features and a high safety rating is an essential aspect in ensuring safer travel on our roads.
# # Sharing the road -
All road users should know their responsibilities and respect the rights to safety of all who share our roads. This includes pedestrians, scooters and skaters, cyclists, heavy vehicles.
# # Breakdown safety -
Remember to slow down and be cautious if you see flashing amber hazard lights on the side of the road.
# # Know when to cross the line -
Stay safe around trains and trams.
# # Medical fitness to drive
Learn about the fitness to drive requirements

# # # # # # # Tricks of washing your own CAR # # # # # # # #

1. Apply a Baking Soda Car Cleaner -

Prepare in advance for your next few car washes by making your own condensed cleaner base. Pour ¼ cup baking soda into a gallon (4 litres) bucket/jug, then add ¼ cup dishwashing liquid and enough water to fill it almost to the top. Mix well, and store the concentrate for later use. When it comes time to wash the car, mix vigorously and then pour 1 cup of the cleaner base into a water pail. Fill the pail with warm water, stir to mix, and your homemade cleaning solution is ready to use.

2. Put Those Baby Wipes to Use -

Want more car wash tricks? Clean your windshield and car windows by rubbing them with baby wipes stored in your glove compartment. What could be easier?

3. Clean Dirty Windshields with Cola -

When it rains after a long dry spell, a dirty windshield turns into one big mess. Get rid of streaks and blotches by pouring cola over the glass. (Stretch a towel along the bottom of the windshield to protect hood paint.) The bubbles in the cola will fizz away the grime. Just be sure to wash the sticky cola off thoroughly or your cleaning efforts will end up attracting dust and dirt.

4. Discover This Surprising No-Wax Washer -

Add 1 cup kerosene to a 3-gallon (12 litre) pail filled with water and then sponge the solution over your car. You won’t have to spray the car before washing or rinse or wax it once you’re done. And the next time it rains, rainwater will bead up and roll off the car, lessening the likelihood of rusting.

5. Try Hair Conditioner for Shine -

Wash your car with a hair conditioner containing lanolin. You’ll become a believer when you see the freshly waxed look and when you find that the surface will repel rain.

6. Man wiping his car windshield -

Add 60 ml household ammonia to 1 liter water, pour it into a plastic bottle with a watertight cap and keep it in your car for washing the windscreen and windows. As soon as your windscreen begins to get dirty, take out the solution and apply it with a sponge; then dry the windscreen with a soft cloth or paper towels.

7. Windshield wipers -

If your windshield wiper blades get dirty, they’ll streak the glass instead of keeping it clean and clear. Make a solution of ¼ cup household ammonia to 1 liter cold water. Gently lift the blades, and wipe both sides with a soft cloth or paper towel soaked in the solution. Then wipe the blades with a dry cloth before lowering them into place.

8. Pouring vodka from bottle -

When your windshield-washer reservoir needs filling, raid the liquor cabinet to make your own washing fluid. In a screw-top gallon jug, mix 3 cups vodka (the cheapest you can find) with 4 cups water and 2 teaspoons liquid dish washing detergent. Screw on the cap and shake well, then pour as much fluid as needed into the reservoir.

9. Car wash -

If the reservoir is empty (and doesn’t it always seem to be?), use an unlikely substitute to clean your windshield: feminine hygiene maxi-pads, a box of which you could stash in the trunk. Hold a pad on the sticky side and rub the windshield vigorously. The glass will really shine once you’ve wiped it to the max.

10. Washing headlights -

Keep your headlights polished (and yourself, safe) by applying window cleaner and rubbing vigorously with an old pair of panty hose.

:::::::::::: Should You Consider a Small Car? :::::::::::::

A Small Car refers to a particular size of vehicle, and is also known as C segment, hatchback, or even Corolla-sized, after the longest-running nameplate in this class.

To be fair, small cars and hatchbacks aren’t for everyone. If you have a big family, often move large or bulky items, or like to tow a trailer behind your vehicle, then a small car probably isn’t for you. However, if you generally only drive by yourself or if you mostly use your car for commuting and getting around, then a small car could be perfect for you.

# # Reduce Traffic Jam / Easy to Drive / Park -
Thanks to their smaller size, compact cars are perfect for inner city driving. You can squeeze past stalled traffic, glide down narrow streets and easily park where no saloon car could dream of venturing. Even if you don’t have to tackle city driving on a regular basis, their smaller size is much better for navigating multi-storey car parks or cruising down country lanes.

# # Price tag -
Obviously, when shopping for cars, smaller models will have a smaller price tag than the larger vehicles. They are generally more affordable from the start of your purchase until the end.

# # Lower Cost Of millage -
One of the biggest benefits that comes with having a smaller car is that running costs are massively lower than their bigger counterparts. Many of these vehicles can achieve a combined fuel efficiency of over 45 mpg with petrol and achieve figures well in the 60 mpg range when it comes to diesel. Smaller, more efficient engines also means paying much lower road tax – in fact, many compact cars pay less than money a year! In addition to this, the purchase price of smaller cars tends to be much lower than you may expect from a others.

# # Safety -
For a long time small cars had a reputation for being unsafe. Today, however, that reputation couldn’t be more false. Small cars and hatchbacks are subject to the same crash testing and reporting as much larger vehicles, and their ratings represent how safe they really are. Many small cars have four-star crash ratings and above, making them every bit as safe as mid-size and large trucks and SUV's in most collisions.

# # Space -
Although larger cars are often chosen due to their capability to fit more cargo and passengers, smaller cars are no longer skimping on room. Many cars on the market today have surprising amounts of cargo space.

# # Upkeep -
Maintenance and upkeep may be more manageable in smaller cars as they often cost less to maintain throughout their lifetimes. This factor can save you time, money and from dealing with unneeded stress.

# # Nippy Handling -
Do you ever feel as though your vehicle corners with all the grace of an overloaded cruise ship? This is often the case with estate cars and people carriers but is an unheard of problem in compact cars. Even with their smaller engines these vehicles accelerate quickly, turn sharply and brake well, allowing you to feel much more confident behind the wheel.

# # Environmentally Friendly -
To add to their charm, compact cars tend to produce much fewer emissions than larger ones. This makes them much better for the environment and contributes towards the money saving benefits in quite a significant way. Whether you are an eco-warrior or not, compact cars can help to save you money while being friendly to Mother Nature – who can argue with that?

# # Fashion -
Smaller cars often come with a sleek look. Not only are they small and slick, they now come with some of the most stunning interior and exterior displays. Smaller models are often offered in more colors and design options when compared to SUVs, so you can have the most fashionable car on modern streets.

# # Insurance -
Here’s another reason based on cost. Insurance for smaller cars is typically more affordable. You can often find better plans and prices for a compact vehicle compared to large vehicles.

A smaller car doesn’t necessarily mean you are losing out on what a larger car can give you. Many modern car drivers are converting to smaller vehicles for a multitude of reasons, like those listed above. Take these into consideration when you’re in the market for a new or used car and deciding between a larger car and a more compact option. You may be gaining a lot by choosing a smaller option.
