Who doesn't want their ride looking sharp this weekend?
Let’s Talk Wheels & Tyres! 🧼🛞
Nothing ruins a fresh car wash faster than leaving your wheels and tyres covered in brake dust and road grime. They are closest to the road, meaning they take the biggest beating.
If you want that crisp, showroom finish, follow this step-by-step breakdown to get your rollers looking brand new.
1. Wash Them FIRST ⏱️
Always clean your wheels and tyres before you wash the rest of the car. If you do them last, you’ll end up splashing nasty brake dust and dirty water all over your freshly cleaned paintwork!
2. Cool Down Before You Spray 🌡️
Never spray cleaning products onto hot wheels. If you've just been driving, give them a few minutes to cool down. Spraying cold chemicals onto a hot brake rotor can cause damage, and the product will dry too quickly, leaving ugly water spots.
3. Use the Right Cleaners & Tools 🪣
The Formula: Use a dedicated, acid-free wheel cleaner for the rims and a heavy-duty degreaser for the rubber tyres.
The Brushes: Use a stiff-bristled brush to scrub the tyre sidewalls, and a soft microfiber cloth or specialised wheel barrel brush for the delicate faces of the rims to avoid scratching.
4. Agitate and Rinse 💦
Spray your cleaner, let it dwell for a minute to break down the grime, and get to scrubbing! Work one wheel at a time so the soap doesn't dry out. Once scrubbed, rinse thoroughly with a sharp blast of water to flush out the brake dust from the lug nut holes and spokes.
5. Dry & Protect 🛡️
Don't let them air dry! Grab a dedicated microfiber towel to dry the rims thoroughly. Finish it off with a high-quality tyre dressing for that deep, rich shine, and a wheel sealant to make your next clean twice as easy.
💡 Pit-Stop Pro-Tip: Keep a completely separate bucket and wash mitt strictly for your wheels. You never want to reuse a mitt covered in sharp, abrasive brake dust on your car's delicate paint!
