Toyota Allex Z 2ZGE
Noticed that the car had been driving and "pinking" occasionally.
Idled dropped at one stage to the point where the car almost stalled but continued to drive.
No check engine light. TEMPERATURE gauge showing what it always showed, NORMAL TEMP range, just slightly under the 1/2 mark.
Something wasn't right.
Diagnostic done and all normal.
Deeper check was carried out with data read.
COOLANT TEMPERATURE: 100 °C and increasing. Cooling fan was running and full coolant in the radiator. (Gauge still reading normal)
Problem solved: Faulty thermostat. A rubber in the thermostat dislocated and was stopping it from opening.
