Customer Warning: The Cost of a Missed Service

​This vehicle came in on the back of a tow truck this week, and the photos tell the whole story. What you’re looking at is a completely failed timing belt.

​When this belt snaps, the synchronisation between your pistons and valves vanishes instantly. In an interference engine, they collide resulting in massive engine failure, bent valves, and a repair bill that costs thousands more than a standard service.

​Don't "stretch" the interval: If your vehicle is due (usually every 100,000km or 5-7 years), get it done.
​Check the Balance Shaft Belt: Often, it's the smaller balance belt that fails first and gets tangled in the main timing belt.
​Listen for warning signs: Unusual slapping or ticking noises from the front of the engine shouldn't be ignored.

​Prevention is always cheaper than a rebuild. If you aren't sure when yours was last changed, bring it by the shop and we’ll check your service history.
