Transmission surgery in progress 🔧
This Colorado's 6L50 is stripped, cleaned and laid out ready for rebuild.
Every clutch pack, bush, bearing, seal and hard part gets inspected before a single component goes back together.
A lot of people only ever see the transmission when it's bolted back in the vehicle. This is the part they don't see — where the diagnosis is confirmed and the rebuild plan comes together.
Soon this bench full of parts will be a fully rebuilt transmission ready for many more kilometres of service.

Weekend ready 👌🏽

The 6L80E it this clean VF Commodore SS has been treated to a heavy-duty rebuild loaded with quality Sonnax upgrades, a TransGo shift kit, a billet cover high-stall converter, and finished off with a custom HP Tuners transmission calibration.
The increased stall speed will help get this LS3 into its powerband quicker, while the tuning sharpens up shift quality, converter behaviour and overall drivability.
This one is ready to head home and enjoy the weekend.

This is where holding power starts 💪
On the right → factory style 4-5-6 clutch.
On the left → our upgraded 43 tooth Powerglide-style clutch conversion.
This 6L80 build is getting some serious upgrades:
✔️ Sonnax extreme duty 4-5-6 clutch hub and intermediate shaft
✔️ 43 tooth high-capacity clutch conversion
✔️ Increased clutch count AND larger friction surface area
Factory these run a 6 friction setup.
This build is stepping up to 7 frictions while also increasing the physical friction surface area using the larger 43 tooth arrangement.
The result?
👉 Around 57% more friction surface capacity over the factory setup.
That means: • More holding power
• Better heat management
• Less chance of clutch slip
• More reliability when power and load go up
Big credit to Sonnax for engineering quality parts that let us build these transmissions to a level that simply wasn’t possible with the factory hardware.
You never see these upgrades once the transmission is back in the car… but this is the sort of stuff that makes the difference between standard and built.

We’ve just finished fitting one of these HPD transmission cooler kits to a Ford Everest running the 10 speed 10R80 transmission — and the quality speaks for itself.

From the billet fittings to the cooler and lines, everything about these kits is next level. Proper gear built to handle heat, towing and real-world abuse — not just look good.
While it was here, we also carried out a full transmission service to keep everything working exactly how it should.

👉 We’re now also offering transmission tuning options on 10R80 fitted vehicles, giving you better shift quality, improved drivability and more control.

This Hilux is in at the moment for a diff rebuild after a failed pinion bearing.
It recently had the A340 auto rebuilt with a heavy duty valvebody, so now it’s time to sort the noise out the back and get it driving right again.
Pretty common issue once they start to wear — and something you want to catch before it turns into bigger damage.

ZF 8HP build in progress 👀
These 8HP series transmissions are everywhere right now, and for good reason.
Smooth, strong, and when they’re right… they drive unreal.
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes shot of one from a G20 BMW we’ve got apart on the bench mid-build.
Clutch packs, drums, seals, all getting gone through properly before it goes back together.
We’re seeing more and more of these come through the workshop, so just a heads up…
Yes, we’re building and repairing ZF 8HPs in-house.

Investing in knowledge to stay ahead.
The team recently attended the Australasian Automotive Transmission Rebuilders - AATR Annual Transmission Seminar on the Gold Coast, and it was a massive couple of days of learning.
We took a lot away from it — especially the HP Tuners sessions, which have given us even more depth on the transmission tuning side of things. I also attended the bonus HP Tuners class run by Mark Wheeler from Whatever It Takes Transmission Parts, Inc (USA), which was next level.

This is a 6L80 3-5-Reverse drum under pressure on our drum tester.
Looks fine at a glance…
But under pressure — that’s when you see it.
In this video, you can see air bubbling straight through a crack in the weld.
That’s an internal leak.
And in the car, that leak means loss of pressure where it matters most.
Result:
3rd gear slips
5th gear slips
Reverse slips (especially backing up hills)
We see this regularly in VE & VF V8 models.
No codes. No obvious fault.
Just poor driveability that slowly gets worse…
Until it turns into a full failure.
This is why we don’t guess — we test.
