People ask me what you really need when restoring cars.
Three things:
Patience. A good podcast. And a serious attention to detail.
You can leave a builder for a day and come back to a wall.
Leave a car restorer for a day and he’s probably still working on the same patch.
My wife has looked at me more than once and said
“You’re pulling my leg… you’ve been at the pub.”
But the truth is these old cars are an absolute labour of love.
Sometimes what looks like “just a polish” is actually 200 hours of work.

How’s the humidity this week!!!! Mate, let me tell you, it’s pretty disappointing when you step on the scales and you should be at least 10kg lighter from the amount of sweat you’ve lost, and you haven’t even lost a gram 🤣. On a side note, there’s a pretty exciting little creative project going on 👊.

I used to dream of having a workshop with cars like this in it.
Now sometimes I catch myself standing back, looking at the shop and thinking…
“Is this actually real?”
Grateful for every opportunity and every car that trusts us with its story.

This one came in with a simple request — “can we get the colour a bit closer to the car?”
No criticism of previous work at all, but I’ll be honest… this was one of the hardest colours I’ve ever had to match. The kind that has you staring at it from every angle, walking away, coming back, and questioning your life choices for a minute 😅
My OCD definitely kicked in because I just couldn’t settle until it felt right. There were a few moments where the breathwork and nostril flare was activated and maybe even a dramatic “I’m done” in the workshop.
But that’s the thing about this trade — sometimes it’s not about fixing damage, it’s about chasing perfection.
After careful tinting, blending and a lot of patience, we got there… and I was honestly so stoked with the final result

Because at the end of the day, if it leaves the shop, it has to be something we’re proud of.

When life says “you’ve got 24 hours”… we say challenge accepted 😏

Our client rolled in with scratches across her door, bumper, trim and lower lip and needed to be back on the road fast. No stress — we went into full all-hands-on-deck mode.

What we tackled:
✔️ Bumper scuffs & scratches
✔️ Paint transfer removal
✔️ Door & moulding scratch repair
✔️ Lower bumper lip damage
✔️ Minor mark near headlight
✔️ Seamless colour match & refinish

24 hours later… scratches gone, car glowing and one very happy client back on the road 🙌

Because at Atkinson Autobody, we don’t just fix cars… we rescue bad days (and parking mishaps 😉).

2025 was an incredible year — filled with tough moments and some truly amazing ones.

Thank you to my boys and my wife for holding the fort while I worked late nights and early mornings. Your patience, love, and support mean more to me than I can put into words.
