Current points score after rd 2 at the bend. The “white whale” aka “The kelvinator” is still holding its own!
🏁 SPORTS COMPACT RACE SERIES 🏁
Championship Points Post Round 2 at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park.
Now that the dust has settled, we start to look forward to the next event in just under a months time at Calder Park Raceway.
Before that though, we have had some movers and shakers with Eddie Metz and David McCann moving up the order. Eddie has moved up to 2nd and David 3rd in the highly competitibe Class B standings. McCann had to battle through a loss of brakes in the 2nd Race of the weekend, showing his inner "Piastri" to not give up. His work paid off in the points to be 3rd in the Stanza. While Eddie bounced back from his unfortunate last race at Winton.
Lauren Talbot who is also Class B had a traumatic weekend. What started with Gearbox issues on the Friday practice sessions, continued into Saturday and Sunday with Power Steering gremlins and contact with another Civic resulting in chassis damage to the #20. This has tumbled her back to 4th in the Class B standings from 2nd.
Neil Chesterton continued his strong start to the 2025 season, proving that french cars can be reliable. His trusty Renault Clio Cup car is not only reliable, but also extremely quick in Neils hands and has been a standout performer for the first two rounds. He head away from Round 2 leading Class A against none other than Stevo Howard who is a multiple state champion. Stevo had an up and down weekend, with a fueling issue in Race 2 hampering his progress. He'll be doing everything he can to assert his ascendency at Calder Park, a track that he won at last year.
Class C saw an old face return to the grid after missing Round 1. Bruce Woodward taking advantage of Keith Collins not making the trek across the border and cleaning up for the weekend. If not for running out of fuel in Race 2, he would have had a perfect score. Keith still heads the class by 30 points.
Class D saw a new addition, with Declan Kirkham joining his mum Megan Kirkham and Nicholas Jones. Declan had a solid weekend cleaning up in Class D and taking vital points to begin a charge at class honours. Megan struggled with a new car and new track. "Pepper" which is the name of the car, had many troubles on the lead up, costing Megan vital time during practice. Nicholas Jones had a very good outing. He drove strongly in all 4 races and bagged some strong points. He currently leads Class D by 85 points over Megan leaving the Bend.
Our Restricted Turbo category saw a new face turn up with Barney Hogan, but it was Linda Devlin that had big speed but gremlins with the Mini meant she missed Race 1 after securing Pole Position. Linda would recover to finish 2nd from the back of the grid in Race 2 and then go on to win the other two remaining races. Richard Gay Took the honours for Class E for the weekend but still trails Linda by 5 points.
Outright its still Jimbo Harris and the mighty Bluebird. Jimbo overcame a gearbox failure in friday practice to March to victory in Race 1 & 2, while finishing 2nd for the other races. He retains the Championship lead over Devlin, with a 33 point difference between the two, and Richard Gay a further 20 points behind.
Calder Park will host our next Round of competition. The long straights suited to the trusty Corolla of Stevo Howard who won here last year. This year though the competition has really stepped up, and its all about whether Harris can keep the consistency up, or whether Linda has finally removed the gremlins from the Mini.
