First race meeting for the year at Winton in the VMRC Vic Tin Tops, only a small field of 5 VTT cars, so they joined us with M30 BMW’s to make up a field!
Saturday was great, qualified 1st, won both Saturday races. Sunday started with a warmup session then a one lap shootout for each category, one that and second fastest overall, congrats Greg Lynch in the Vic V8’s Commodore.
Then it all turned to s**t when I run the battery low waiting in the pregrid from running the cool suit and the electric power steering, voltage dropped so the fuel pumps wouldn’t run when trying to start, happened on both races.
Lesson is use an external plugin backup battery if you want the luxury of cool suit whilst waiting in pregrid!
Anyway this weekend was mainly a shakedown before the big boy races start!
I have to mention that the new format that the VMRC are running there events with now work really well, quick turn around between races, the rolling starts really seem to work well, the next category is rolling out on track as the last of the previous racers are coming back in!

Big thanks to Dean Lilly of Ravage Raceworks for the excellent tune or the 6ltr LS and the new Samsonas sequel gearbox, and the track days fine tuning the Silvia.
Also Matt DeKoke of for the repairs and respray of the Rapid Racing Orange fiberglass panels.
Also Matt Lyon of for the freshen up of the sign writing!
Last but not least would be out here racing if it wasn’t for Mark Seaton for all the race car prep and pit crewing!

Finished the Aussie Tin Tops with third overall drivers championship!
Totally unexpected!
Plus a trophy for best presented car!
It’s been an awesome year of racing with the the little Silvia, and huge thanks to Seato for all the race car engineering and pit crewing.
Last outing for the year now is Challenge Bathurst sprints.

Got lucky in race 3, started P7, finished on the podium with a 3rd.
However was helped by Steve Chilby’s DNF and Ben Arnold’s 15 second penalty for crossing the Blendline line on the out lap, then finishing under safety car compressing the field across the finish line. However I did start with another stall off the line, so I started from rear of grid, love making my way through the field, had a great battle with Matt Sears for a couple of laps, no paint exchanged.
Last race at 2.25 will be televised on SBS, Kayo and live streamed.

Done for the weekend!
We brought the Rapid Racing Silvia home in one piece, after another atrocious start, with major clutch slip this time, meant the whole field passed me on the start line, then fought back to 4th and finished their behind Jooga.
Even the restart under safety car, I wasn’t able to catch the front three!
Overall pretty happy with the weekend., made some great gains with the car and my driving. Surprised a few people this weekend!
Good sleep tonight and a 16hour drive home tomorrow!

Well I really fluffed that start in race 2, actually stalled this time, very lucky not to have turned the Silvia into a hatch back.
But after we finally got off the line I was soon fighting for P3 with Tony Saint in the LS powered RX8, but I ended up trying to out brake him into turn 4 but sent myself on an excursion into the weeds, giving Jooga a gain.
So finished up 5th this time, if I can get this thing off the line I have a chance of getting another podium.
2 more races today.
The afternoon race will be live on SBS again.

Well race 3 this morning was a DNF after the first lap, bad tyre choice on a wet track, plus a major electric short shutting the engine down finished the morning race!
Last race still wet, but with wet tyres, started P2, finished P2, can’t catch the commodore of Possi’s in the wet, but was very happy with the Silvia and my wet driving, ended up only about 1.5 seconds off Possi’s best time, with a 1.37.
Best part Silvia back home straight and reliable.
Ready for Queensland in three weeks.
