2017 Mitsubishi Triton – Limp Mode Fixed & Dialled In

This 2017 Triton rolled into the workshop down on power and stuck in limp mode. Before chasing extra performance, we tracked down and rectified the fault to get the vehicle operating as it should.

Once everything was healthy, we carried out a mild calibration aimed at improving drivability, towing performance and overall responsiveness while keeping things sensible for a daily-driven workhorse.

Results:
✅ Factory Calibration: 142.4 HP / 408 Nm
✅ Dan's Dyno Calibration: 190.6 HP / 497 Nm

That's a gain of:
📈 +48.2 HP (+34%)
📈 +89 Nm (+22%)

The result is a much stronger and more enjoyable Triton with improved mid-range torque and better throttle response, all while maintaining reliability.

BIG trip for this one.

John made the run all the way down from Toowoomba QLD and brought both the N80 Hilux and his tidy 200 Series to have them dialled in properly.

And honestly, it’s something we never take for granted.

We’re pretty proud that customers keep travelling from all over Australia to get their vehicles on the dyno here in West Wyalong. We don’t have a big franchise network or flashy sales team — Dan’s Dyno has been built largely off customer referrals and word of mouth, and that support means a lot to us.

The 200 Series is an absolute credit to John too. It’s still very much in the build phase and has only just had its first service, but it’s already shaping up to be a weapon.

2021 N80 Hilux

Factory:
159.0 HP / 447 Nm

Dan’s Dyno Calibration:
207.7 HP / 608 Nm

Gain:
⬆️ +48.7 HP (+30.6%)
⬆️ +161 Nm (+36.0%)

2019 stretched 200 Series with Multimap

Factory:
159.4 HP / 337 Nm

Tow Map:
236.5 HP / 567 Nm

Power Map:
276.5 HP / 793 Nm

Tow gain over factory:
⬆️ +77.1 HP (+48.4%)
⬆️ +230 Nm (+68.2%)

Power gain over factory:
⬆️ +117.1 HP (+73.5%)
⬆️ +456 Nm (+135.3%)

Two very different builds, both now properly sorted and ready for the next stage.

Massive thanks again to John for making the trip down from Queensland and trusting us with both rigs.

THIS is why we say — qualify your results.

BRODY MADE THE TRIP FROM WEE WAA NSW 🔥

This 2016 Hilux Manual running the low output 1GD made the run over to Dan’s Dyno chasing more torque, better drivability and a bit more attitude.

The Hilux rolled in for:

✅ Custom ECU Calibration
✅ Dan’s Dyno Exhaust System
✅ Dyno Validation
✅ A rowdy hardcut to finish it off properly 😈

Factory performance came in at:

134.2 HP
332 Nm

After calibration and exhaust work:

179.0 HP
516 Nm

That’s an improvement of:

🔥 +33.4% horsepower
🔥 +55.4% torque

Peak numbers look good…

But have a look at what happened lower in the rev range.

The torque curve absolutely comes alive early and carries hard through the midrange. Exactly what these low output 1GD work utes need when they’re loaded up, towing or spending their life on the road.

The result is a Hilux that doesn’t just make more power — it actually drives like it should have from factory.

And because we couldn’t leave it alone…

It also left with a rowdy hardcut limiter for a bit of extra carry on at the top end 😏

THIS is why we say — QUALIFY YOUR RESULTS

Real dyno testing.
Real overlays.
Real gains.

Big thanks to Broody from Wee Waa NSW for making the trip over to West Wyalong.

Jess making the trip up from Jugiong — and this is why it’s worth it.

2015 Hilux in for a proper calibration after complaints of the vehicle being sluggish.

After a Dan’s Dyno calibration:

➡️ 189.4 HP / 532 Nm
⬅️ 121.0 HP / 284 Nm

Where it matters — down low:

This is where the gains are.

Massive increase in torque from low RPM through the midrange —
the area you actually use every time you drive it.

No more waiting for it… just clean, usable power.

That’s the difference between a vehicle that feels average,
and one that actually does the job properly.

Finished off with a rowdy hardcut at 4600 rpm 👌

A good one from Batlow.

Rod brought us his 100 Series running the legendary 1HDFTE —
a seriously tidy example of a 25-year-old wagon, still exactly how it left the factory.

No bolt-ons, no shortcuts… just a solid base to work from.

We fitted a Unichip and went through it properly on the dyno,
bringing it into the modern age with a Dan’s Dyno calibration.

Results:

➡️ 185.6 HP / 507 Nm (Power map)
➡️ 180.8 HP / 452 Nm (Everyday)
➡️ 173.0 HP / 406 Nm (Tow)
⬅️ 148.6 HP / 326 Nm (Factory)

What matters — drivability:

These old FTEs respond properly when they’re set up right.

We’ve picked up strong gains right through the curve,
working with what we’ve got — factory exhaust and a small stock intercooler tucked behind a driving light.

But more importantly — usable torque for towing, without compromising reliability.

Perfect for hauling the van without constantly working the thing.

25 years old…
but now drives like it should have from factory.

THIS is why we say — qualify your results.

2022 LC70 in with an existing tune.
On the road test, we didn’t even pick that it had been tuned —
there was no real torque gain where these engines are meant to deliver.

After a proper calibration on the factory ECU:

207.5 HP / 640 Nm
Up from 180.8 HP / 424 Nm

The important part — down low:

This is where these live.

From low RPM through the midrange it’s a completely different vehicle —
stronger, cleaner, and actually usable.

And here’s the kicker:

We achieved all of this while running
👉 ~2 AFR points leaner in the midrange — the DPF will be happy with that.

So not only more power —
but doing it properly and efficiently, not just throwing fuel at it.

This is the difference between
a file being loaded… and a vehicle being properly calibrated.
