Hyundai Kona Electric ⚡️🔧

“Inverter Low Coolant” warning on the dash? We recently had this Kona Electric in for diagnosis to get to the bottom of exactly what was causing the warning and carry out the correct repair rather than simply clearing the fault.

In this video we run through the diagnosis and fix, including a look at the Kona EV’s inverter cooling system and why getting these warnings properly investigated is so important.

And, because apparently she’s part of the workshop team now, there’s also a sneaky appearance from our Golden Retriever, Luna 🐕😂

🎉 A huge congratulations to Karl! 🎉

Today, our fourth year apprentice Karl officially completed his Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology — a milestone absolutely worth celebrating.

Karl has been an imperative part of the West End Service Centre team for the past four years, and if you’ve ever brought your car to us, or even watched one of our videos, chances are you’ve experienced Karl’s work.

Quite often he’ll be halfway through fixing something when I stop him and tell him to film me explaining it so I can take all the credit for the work he’s doing.

It’s one of the perks of being the boss. Har har har.

Jokes aside, completing your apprenticeship and earning your qualification is a massive achievement. Four years of learning, hard work, early mornings, difficult jobs and plenty of experience have gone into getting to this point.

Congratulations, mate. What a feat. Well deserved and well earned. I’m incredibly proud of you.

🔧 Another look inside a Ford Wet Belt engine – and this one was a little different.

While carrying out this wet belt replacement, we identified issues with the balancer weight assembly, highlighting yet another reason why these engines need proper inspection rather than simply replacing the belts and hoping for the best.

This wet belt package was completed the right way, including:

✅ New timing cover
✅ New oil sump
✅ New water pump
✅ New auxiliary drive belts
✅ Replacement of both wet belts
✅ Oil pickup removed, inspected and thoroughly cleaned
✅ All single-use bolts replaced as required
✅ Comprehensive inspection of related components

In the video, Aaron explains the common failure points of these engines and why a complete repair approach is critical for long-term reliability.

If you own a Ford fitted with a wet belt engine, don’t leave it until it’s too late. We’ve seen enough of these failures to confidently say we do not recommend waiting until the official Ford replacement interval.

Volkswagen Passat 2.0T Petrol in for coolant loss diagnostics 🔍

These are the jobs we enjoy — especially when the issue turns out to be something other than the usual thermostat housing failure 🤣

Another one in and another opportunity to get stuck into some proper diagnostics 🔍

This Volkswagen Caddy 1.6L TDI came through with an air mass meter fault — already had a new air mass meter fitted prior, but the fault was still present.

Perfect example of why we love what we do.

No assumptions, no shortcuts — just getting into the data, testing properly, and working through the process step by step to find the actual cause.

This one turned out to be a straightforward fix once the right path was followed 👌
