🔧 Another look inside a Ford Wet Belt engine – and this one was a little different.

While carrying out this wet belt replacement, we identified issues with the balancer weight assembly, highlighting yet another reason why these engines need proper inspection rather than simply replacing the belts and hoping for the best.

This wet belt package was completed the right way, including:

✅ New timing cover
✅ New oil sump
✅ New water pump
✅ New auxiliary drive belts
✅ Replacement of both wet belts
✅ Oil pickup removed, inspected and thoroughly cleaned
✅ All single-use bolts replaced as required
✅ Comprehensive inspection of related components

Another one in and another opportunity to get stuck into some proper diagnostics 🔍

This Volkswagen Caddy 1.6L TDI came through with an air mass meter fault — already had a new air mass meter fitted prior, but the fault was still present.

Perfect example of why we love what we do.

No assumptions, no shortcuts — just getting into the data, testing properly, and working through the process step by step to find the actual cause.

This one turned out to be a straightforward fix once the right path was followed 👌

2018 Volkswagen Arteon – Extensive Headlight Diagnostics 🔍

This Arteon came to us after visiting other local “specialists”…

Happy to take the service 💰
Not so happy to actually diagnose and fix the fault ❌

The issue? Both LED headlights completely inoperative.
Not a simple bulb replacement. Not a quick scan-and-guess job.

🚗 Diagnostics in Action – Volkswagen Amarok 3.0L V6 Diesel

This 2018 Volkswagen Amarok 2018 V6 3.0L Diesel DDXC came to us on a tow truck after another workshop hit a wall trying to diagnose it. Warning, this is a long one, Aaron tried to fit everything in. He is disappointed he doesn't have the video length to show you the signal waveform and show you how to analyze it, but he has promised to come to a follow-up on this one at a later stage with the signal and analysis so everyone can understand!

Fault: P0104 – Mass or Volume Airflow ‘A’ Circuit Intermittent

This isn’t a “throw parts at it” job — this is where real diagnostics comes in.

Aaron got straight to work, diving into live data, signal testing, and proper diagnostic processes to understand exactly why the fault is occurring — not just clearing codes and hoping for the best.

If you’ve been around the workshop, you’ll know Aaron lives and breathes diagnostics. But it wasn’t always like that…
Once upon a time, he was a first-year apprentice being told to diagnose a noise described as:
👉 “sounds like a marble rolling along a hardwood floor and hitting a skirting board” 😅

Volvo C40 Recharge in for its scheduled logbook service.

The dealer quoted nearly triple our price. Yes — genuinely triple.

Now, it has never been about being the cheapest. We all know the cheapest option is not always the best. But what we are seeing in the EV space is that because there still is not a truly competitive market for electric vehicle servicing and repairs, many dealers are simply charging whatever they like.

Why? In many cases it comes down to a mix of limited competition, lack of real-world experience, scare tactics, poor understanding, insufficient training, and not having the right equipment.

The C40 recharge has a secure gateway - meaning even simply takes like resetting a service light are arbitrary. - secure gateway unlocked - you can’t trick us Volvo 😉.
