🔧 This is why a timing belt replacement is about more than just changing the belt.

This 2003 Lexus IS300 with the legendary 2JZ-GE VVT-i engine is stripped down in our West End workshop, giving a clear look at what can develop around the front of these engines after more than 20 years on the road.

During the repair we identified areas requiring attention around the timing belt system, water pump, camshaft and crankshaft oil seals, VVT-i assembly and associated drive belts. Oil leakage in this area shouldn’t simply be cleaned off and ignored, while everything is accessible, it makes sense to inspect the complete system and repair the underlying causes properly.

In this video we walk through the engine while it is dismantled and show why a thorough inspection matters on older Lexus IS300 and Toyota 2JZ engines.

🔧 Volkswagen Scirocco in the workshop — finding the problem, not just replacing parts.

This VW Scirocco is a great example of why proper mechanical diagnosis matters. In the video we’re checking the engine accessory drive area around the alternator and belt system, looking for the source of abnormal operation before recommending repairs.

Hyundai Kona Electric ⚡️🔧

“Inverter Low Coolant” warning on the dash? We recently had this Kona Electric in for diagnosis to get to the bottom of exactly what was causing the warning and carry out the correct repair rather than simply clearing the fault.

In this video we run through the diagnosis and fix, including a look at the Kona EV’s inverter cooling system and why getting these warnings properly investigated is so important.

And, because apparently she’s part of the workshop team now, there’s also a sneaky appearance from our Golden Retriever, Luna 🐕😂

🎉 A huge congratulations to Karl! 🎉

Today, our fourth year apprentice Karl officially completed his Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology — a milestone absolutely worth celebrating.

Karl has been an imperative part of the West End Service Centre team for the past four years, and if you’ve ever brought your car to us, or even watched one of our videos, chances are you’ve experienced Karl’s work.

Quite often he’ll be halfway through fixing something when I stop him and tell him to film me explaining it so I can take all the credit for the work he’s doing.

It’s one of the perks of being the boss. Har har har.

Jokes aside, completing your apprenticeship and earning your qualification is a massive achievement. Four years of learning, hard work, early mornings, difficult jobs and plenty of experience have gone into getting to this point.
