400 cubic inches of real American V8.

It's not all RAMs, Silverados and modern trucks coming through our workshop.

This Pontiac 6.6L V8 has just undergone a complete in-house engine rebuild at Welshpool Auto Service.

Not a quick tidy-up or fresh coat of paint. The engine was stripped, measured, machined and reassembled with new bearings, rings and gaskets throughout.

The finishing touches included:

- Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold
- Holley four-barrel carburettor
- Chrome rocker covers
- New balancer and pulleys
- Fresh Pontiac blue engine block finish

There's something about these old American V8s that never gets old, especially when they've been properly rebuilt from the inside out.

From the machining through to final assembly, the entire job was handled in-house.

That familiar HEMI tick? Here's why you shouldn't ignore it.

We've just completed another Ram Trucks 5.7 HEMI top-end overhaul here at Welshpool Auto Service.

One of the problems we see with these engines is roller lifter failure. When a lifter stops rolling properly, it can start wearing into the camshaft. Leave it long enough and what starts as a top-end problem can become a much bigger repair.

For this job, we:

- Fitted a new camshaft and lifters
- Replaced the oil pump
- Installed new MDS solenoids
- Checked and reconditioned the cylinder heads
- Renewed the gaskets, seals and timing components

It's not just about replacing the parts that have failed. We also check the related components and address potential contributing issues to help avoid the same problem happening again.

If your RAM has developed a ticking noise, misfire or just isn't running as it should, get it checked before the damage gets worse.

This RAM 1500 with the 5.7L HEMI is getting some fairly major surgery in the Welshpool Auto Service workshop.

We're carrying out a camshaft and lifter replacement, a job that requires extensive disassembly to get right. As the photo shows, sometimes working on these big American trucks means getting well beyond what you'd expect from an everyday mechanical repair!

Camshaft and lifter issues are something 5.7 HEMI owners should be aware of. Symptoms can include:

- Ticking or tapping noises from the engine
- Misfires or rough running
- Check engine light
- Loss of power or poor performance
- Metal contamination in the engine oil
- Camshaft and lifter wear or failure

Correct diagnosis is important before pulling an engine apart. Once we've confirmed the problem, our team can carry out the repair properly and replace the affected components to get the HEMI back where it should be.

We regularly work on RAM 1500s and other American trucks, from routine servicing and diagnostics through to major engine, transmission and driveline repairs.
