💚🏇 Since 2021, our sponsors MCG Sheds Pty Ltd have ensured Scott Ellis is remembered on Cup Day, honouring him in their sponsored race and gathering trackside to celebrate his life.

The Scott Ellis Memorial / Ranbuild Warwick Newmarket has become a special part of the day, a chance to come together, share memories and keep Scott’s name present in the community he was part of.

To his closest mates and Warwick, he was “Pincher”. A talented rugby league player and cricketer, a hard worker and a much-loved partner, son, brother and friend.

From a premiership with the Warwick Cowboys’ under-18s in 2005 to Queensland Cup football with Norths Devils and A-grade cricket premierships with Wheatvale, Scott made his mark. Those who knew him also remember the moments away from sport, spent with family and friends.

This year, Angara took out the race for local trainer Simon Grimson, with Kenji Yoshida guiding the $21 chance to victory over favourite Breezin’. A proud local result on an afternoon carrying special meaning.

To Ranbuild Warwick, thank you for continuing this tribute since 2021. Your support gives Scott’s loved ones a place to gather, celebrate and remember him each Cup Day.

Congratulations to Angara’s connections, and to everyone who gathered in Scott’s honour, thank you for keeping those memories alive.

Always part of our Cup Day. 💚

💚 Cup Day held a special place for remembrance, with the running of the inaugural Les Clarke Memorial, proudly sponsored by the Clarke family.

🏇 Switchblade, trained by Stephen Matthews and ridden by Aidan Keeley, claimed the race with a commanding victory, completing a winning double for Keeley on Warwick Cup Day. 🏆

For the winning connections, it was a moment to celebrate. For the Clarke family, it marked the beginning of a race carrying Les’s name, a tribute shared with everyone gathered at the track.

Country racing creates memories that reach beyond the finish line. On Saturday, amid the excitement of Cup Day, there was time to honour Les and recognise the family who made this inaugural running possible. 🕊️

To the Clarke family, thank you for choosing to honour Les through racing at Warwick. We were proud to share this occasion with you. 💚

👏 Congratulations to Switchblade and his connections, whose names will forever sit alongside the first running of the Les Clarke Memorial.

The first chapter of a race run in remembrance. A special place for Les on Warwick Cup Day. 🏇💚

81 YEARS OLD. ONE HORSE IN WORK. A WARWICK CUP WIN TO TREASURE. 🏆💚

After more than six decades training horses, Sam Strazzieri celebrated his first Wickham Freight Lines / Maydan Livestock Transport Warwick Cup victory and what a finish!

Headed in the straight, Capital Asset refused to give in, fighting back under apprentice Jess Emmerson to win by just 0.01 lengths. 🏇

The 166th WICKHAM FREIGHT LINES / MAYDAN LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT WARWICK CUP gave us a story we’ll be telling for a long time.

We woke to rain, but there was confidence in the ground beneath our feet. Our track team works tirelessly to keep our racing surface safe and race ready, and yesterday’s Soft 5 was a reminder of just how far Warwick has come. There was a time when a little rain could spell the end of a race day here. Yesterday, the crowd arrived determined to make a day of it and make a day of it they did.

Locals, visitors, big groups and familiar faces filled the grounds. By Race 3, the rain had stopped. By Race 4, the sunshine had joined the party. ☀️ Then came a Cup finish worthy of the occasion.

Capital Asset, prepared by Sam Strazzieri and ridden by apprentice Jess Emmerson, claimed the Warwick Cup by just 0.01 lengths over The Catch. Behind that win is a lovely family story. After a lifetime in the floor-covering industry, Sam is enjoying his next chapter preparing a small team, now just one horse, with Capital Asset raced alongside family members Jason, Anthony, Dylan and Nicolas Strazzieri. A horse found for sale online, purchased for around $20,000, and now a Warwick Cup winner. That’s the sort of story country racing gives us. And the celebrations extended to the Calcutta: BBT purchased Capital Asset for $1,100 and collected the first-place pool payout of $9,515.63! 👏

Away from the winning post, the Warwick Hotel & The Strand Fashions on the Field was a spectacle of its own. Record entries in Best Dressed Lady and Millinery. Custom creations, gorgeous patterns and carefully chosen details. Contestants travelling far and wide to compete for a $4,000 pool of cash and prizes.

Our first Picklebet Punters Club? WOW. 🔥 Five hours of food, drinks and trackside atmosphere made for a huge debut. The enthusiasm from the people inside has us thinking this could become a Cup Day favourite.

As the sun set over Picklebet Allman Park, our Kick for Cash contestants gave the crowd another reason to cheer. The $10,000 remained unclaimed, but it certainly wasn’t for lack of trying! Then came the infamous Pickle Races. A little mud, a little sliding and a whole lot of laughter. If you stayed for those, you know exactly why they’ve earned their reputation. 😂🥒

Andrew Kucks carried us into the evening, with the crowd dancing, singing and squeezing every last moment out of a spectacular day.

To our incredible CEO and committee, track team, staff and volunteers, thank you for the countless hours behind every moment people enjoyed yesterday.

To Wickham Freight Lines, Maydan Livestock Transport, Picklebet, Kidszone Australia, Ranbuild Warwick, Globe Accounting, Gross Wholesale Meats, Brownlie Concretors, The Clarke Family, Warwick Hotel & The Strand, thank you for backing country racing.

To the trainers, owners and jockeys who brought the racing to Warwick, and every patron who bought a ticket, brought their friends and cheered from the sidelines, you made Cup Day what it was.

166 editions, and still giving Warwick something to come together for.
