When you’re part of the coffee industry, it’s easy to see other roasters as competitors. Days like today are a reminder that the best people see each other as community first.

This week our roaster broke down while we’re waiting on a replacement part. Orders still need to be roasted, packed and sent, so today we headed down to Peak Coffee Roasters.

A huge thank you to Sean and Christine (and Ainsley of course) for opening the doors, sharing your roastery, and making us feel so welcome. Your generosity has meant we can keep roasting coffee, get it back to Walcha tonight, and keep looking after our customers without missing a beat.

It’s moments like this that remind you why we love this industry. Great coffee is important, but great people are what make it special.

If you’re ever in the area, do yourself a favour and stop in to Peak Coffee Roasters. Thanks again, Sean and Christine. We won’t forget your kindness.

Meet Careen.

If you’ve ordered coffee from us, there’s a very good chance Careen packed it before it left the roastery. She quietly keeps a huge part of Walcha Coffee running, making sure orders are accurate, organised and on their way to customers all over Australia.

Careen is married to my brother Kanun. He was adopted into our family years ago, but still insists on telling everyone we’re twins. Apparently twins can be two feet different in height, have completely different skin tones and look absolutely nothing alike… we’ll let him keep believing it.

One of my favourite parts of having a family business is that work and family naturally overlap. Most days Careen’s two gorgeous kids—my niece and nephew—are here too, filling the roastery with plenty of laughs, curiosity and the occasional distraction. It’s a reminder that we’re building something that’s about more than just coffee.

Businesses are often judged by the person behind the camera or standing at the coffee machine, but they’re really built by the people working behind the scenes. Careen is one of those people, and Walcha Coffee simply wouldn’t be the same without her.

Thanks for everything you do, Careen.

Almost every review in this video is five stars, and we do not take a single one of them for granted.

Each review represents someone who visited the Walcha Coffee Roastery, tried our coffee, met our team and chose to share their experience.

For a small regional business, that support matters. It helps new customers find us, gives our team valuable feedback and reminds us why we keep working to improve every cup, every visit and every interaction.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, left a review, recommended us to a friend or made Walcha Coffee part of their trip through town.

Have you visited the roastery yet?

Walcha is turning on the winter charm this weekend.

Winterfest is happening today, followed by the Walcha Markets tomorrow, so rug up, bring the family and make a full weekend of it. There’ll be plenty to see, local businesses to support and good reasons to stay a little longer.

While you’re in town, call into Walcha Coffee for something warm. We’ll have the coffee flowing and the roastery ready to welcome you.

Winterfest today. Markets tomorrow. Walcha all weekend.

If you’re heading through Inverell, the Visitor Information Centre is well worth a stop.

We had a look around and they’ve got a brilliant range of local producers stocked in store — local honey, barbecue sauces, rubs, gifts, regional products and, of course, Walcha Coffee.

It’s the kind of place that reminds you how much good stuff is being made right here in our region.

So whether you’re up that way for fossicking, passing through, or just exploring the area, call in and support a few local makers while you’re there.

And while you’re in Inverell, don’t forget to head next door to Riverside, grab a meal, and enjoy a Walcha Coffee while you’re at it. Total vibe.
