Big weekend of building and painting this 200ci 6 cylinder motor to go into a customer's XR Ford Falcon. Absolutely loving the clear coated bare metal rocker cover with a bit of rust to add to the ratty look he is going for!

So I've had a quite a few people ask if they are able to get their own Davie Auto Shed hoodie or shirt, so I've decided to just make a merch store for anybody who would like to show their support for the business. They are all printed on premium AS Colour clothing and there are so many colours to choose from!
I hope to be able to add hats and other any other designs in the future, so look out for those too.

It's been a while since a post, but there is always things going on in the workshop. So here's some Hilux spam!

Matt's Hilux had a Fulcrum 2" lift installed in the front plus some new SuperPro bushes in the lower control arms and rear springs.
Arie's Hilux had a full set of 18x9 rims that he supplied wrapped in some Falken Wildpeak AT's to replace the stock rims on the car and to give it a more aggressive look.
Then my own Hilux was in for a 3" Lift in the front on Bilstien Coil-overs with Phat Bars springs to level it all out! (Finally).

Weinz Excavations & Landscaping was in this morning for a new set of shoes and new rear brakes for the work rig.
Here's the after and before, definitely looking a lot more aggressive now!
Another very happy customer!

It just must be the week for broken down White, Diesel 4X4s in need of repair! Clutch, potential head gasket failure and rear diff breakage all in different cars!
There's never a dull moment out here! 😅

Damon's Nissan Patrol was in for repairs this week. After a loss of power whilst driving it was discovered that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Pipe between the exhaust manifold and EGR cooler had snapped at the welds after all the years of vibrations and temperature changes. This failure caused the turbo to not operate due to the minimal amount of exhaust gas flowing through it to power it, hence the loss in power.
A new Nissan genuine EGR pipe was fitted and clearly Nissan have recognised this problem and strengthened the point of failure.
I've been told the car is now feeling even more powerful and responsive than it was before the failure, a great result from a very happy customer.

Things have been consistantly busy at Davie Auto Shed since the year started!. Seeing as nothing has been posted for a while I thought I might do a few little video updates on some jobs going on at the workshop at the moment! Hopefully you might learn a few things too!

The last two days have been fun assembling the rest of this engine.
Attention to detail has been a key factor in this engine rebuild with many parts being resprayed to look brand new again!
In addition to the bearings fitted earlier in the week and the reworked cylinder heads. A new camshaft and timing chain was also added into the mix, along with some shiny new welch plugs!

A lot of fun has been had working on the older motors and is always something to look forward to!
The before and after at the end of the post is a testament to these old donks and definitely show how much life they can still have in them in the right hands!

(Wesfil oil filter only used for engine running in, Ryco is the way to go!)

Progress on Project VH!
Cleaned up pistons and honed all the bores. Freshened up all the bottom end with new bearings throughout. Removed all the valves and re-seated them all and then re-assembled the heads. Then fitted to the block with some new head gaskets!
This old 253 is coming along very nicely.
Can't wait to hear it purring!

So this week is Project VH week. A whole lot of work is going to be completed on this thing over the next few days so stay tuned!
The first photo is how it is currently sitting in the workshop. Let's see what it looks like by Friday!

Managed to get a head start on it last week, and thankfully so. It involved removing some seized and broken bonnet hinge pin bolts. So drilling through the body and drilling out the broken bolts was the only way! And then of course hinge pin bolts cannot be sourced for a car this old. So with a bit of ingenuity I was able to make some up that fit perfectly! And with a larger thread size so they're much stronger.
Then welding, cleaning up and rust converting the removed sections to seal the holes created. Plenty more to come!
