Save the date for our Centenary celebrations weekend!

Valencia Creek Fire Brigade and Hall are officially 100 years old, so we have a huge weekend of historical displays, kids’ activities, service awards, many memories and lots of food to share.

And the launch and sales of a book on the history of the local area, specially written to commemorate the centenary.

Join us from 1.00pm on Saturday 14 November and 11.00am on Sunday 15 November to celebrate our beautiful community, its history and the people who have helped build it and protect it.

The river is well up over the low level bridge at Valencia Creek. Please go via the Bushy Park road to get here.

Local police are patrolling flooded areas - stay safe, and never risk driving through floodwaters. If it’s flooded, forget it. 🦆

The Fire Danger Period has been declared by CFA for Wellington Shire, starting on Monday 5 October.

The Fire Danger Period restricts the use of fire outdoors during the fire season to help prevent fires starting.

Fires can only be lit during the Fire Danger Period with a fire permit.

A Total Fire Ban day can be declared any time of the year and no fires can be lit.

Please take care with any burning off or bonfires you’re planning before the start of these fire restrictions.

🔥Register your burn with CFA on 1800 668 511.
🔥Check weather conditions for the time of ignition and a few days afterwards.
🔥Always monitor your burn while it is lit and check it afterwards to make sure it’s fully extinguished.

Make sure you have a Bushfire Survival Plan and you and your family know what to do if there’s a fire in your area. Don’t leave it too late.

Brigade members had a virtual reality check last night (Monday 31 August) when they used FLAIM technology to respond to realistic emergency incidents in a safe environment.

Scenarios included haystack fires, machinery fires, car fires and house under ember attack.

Participants said it was a fun way to learn more about live and serious firefighting techniques.

Thanks to Anthony Kovco for setting up the gear and debriefing after each scenario.

AFAC News has released the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring. The outlook suggests an earlier start to the bushfire season this year. Drought-affected areas in parts of eastern and western Victoria are facing an increased bushfire risk leading into spring and summer.

Under the forecast conditions, there is potential for multiple large fires starting as early as October across parts of the state.

Now is a great time to start preparing your plan and property, including:
📋 Updating your fire plan
🌱 Mowing long grass
🏡 Clearing gutters.

Boisdale Hill Climb was the venue for a group training exercise yesterday (Saturday 15 August) to refresh skills in drafting, a (mock) running grass fire, hazardous tree identification and entrapment drill.

Valencia Creek crews were joined by Boisdale, Cowwarr, Glenmaggie, Coongulla, Newry, Sale and Maffra brigades.

The national AusAlert test is coming to us on Monday 27 July at 2.00pm

Be ready for it!

A test alert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia as part of this national test of a new emergency messaging system.
