Jasper Peel with his little upgrade are on the chopping block this week. Hoping to make some big progress over the coming days.

The upgrades include new head studs and gaskets, new injectors (because bigger is always better), and a full set of new pulleys to run that blower properly and of course that lovely supercharger.
I’ll post progress photos as we go.

The vehicle runs well and has recently had a gasket kit and new oil pump as a result of this work, the 304 engine is now extremely dry with no noticeable oil leaks, and the oil pressure light no longer flickers. The engine is running reliably and performing as it should.

Towards the end of last year we fitted a tidy little cam package into Jasper’s ute. Nice note, good chop, healthy poke — you know the deal. We were pretty proud of ourselves.

Then we made the mistake of taking him to Summernats 38

Rookie error.

Ever since we got back, Jasper’s been popping up at the workshop like a man who’s just realised his dog only barks in lowercase.

“It’s missing something.”
“It’s not making the right noises.”
“It doesn’t whoosh.”
“It doesn’t psshhh.”

Apparently a tough cammed V8 just isn’t enough once you’ve stood next to 3,000 boosted cars bouncing off limiter for a week.

We suggested:
• A turbo
• Twin turbos (because one is lonely)
• A supercharger (for the dramatic whine)

After several highly technical discussions (read: standing around pointing at things and making turbo noises with our mouths), Jasper made his decision — with a little guidance from the peanut gallery.

Let’s just say…

The ute will no longer be “missing that noise.”
