⚡ **EVs ARE NOT MAINTENANCE FREE.** ⚡

We need to talk about this, because we’re seeing more and more EVs, that simply aren’t being serviced.

Some owners seem to have taken “EVs require less maintenance” to mean “EVs don’t need servicing.”

They are not the same thing.

Yes, you’ve removed the internal combustion engine. No engine oil. No spark plugs. No timing belt.

But the engine was only one part of the vehicle.

Your EV still has brakes and brake fluid.
It still has steering and suspension components.
It still has tyres, wheel bearings, bushes, ball joints and CV joints.
It still has a reduction drive/transmission with lubrication.
And it has a **very sophisticated thermal management system** looking after the battery, motors and power electronics.

That cooling system is particularly important.

Battery temperature has a major influence on charging, performance and battery life. Pumps, valves, hoses, coolant circuits and heat exchangers all have a job to do — and ignoring leaks or deterioration because “EVs don't need servicing” can become a very expensive lesson.

We're not saying an EV needs an old-fashioned oil-and-filter service every 10,000 km.

It doesn't.

We're saying it needs to be properly inspected and maintained — by technicians who are actually trained to work on these vehicles.

EV and hybrid systems require specific training, the correct safety procedures, appropriate equipment and, importantly, access to the right technical information.

There is a big difference between putting an EV on a hoist and actually knowing what you're looking at.

Because eventually some owners are going to discover that all the money they saved by never having their EV checked can disappear very quickly when a driveline, thermal-management or high-voltage component fails.

If you own a Tesla or another EV, don't wait for a warning message before somebody actually looks underneath it.

🔋 **A battery is just a battery… right? Not anymore.**

Modern vehicles are incredibly sensitive to voltage and power supply stability. With many vehicles now containing **40+ electronic control modules**, a poor battery or unstable power supply can cause some very strange problems.

During routine servicing we're seeing an increasing number of **U-codes — communication faults between the vehicle's different control modules.**

Sometimes they're simply historical glitches. But increasingly, we're finding power supply issues behind them — weak batteries, incorrect battery types, poor connections or batteries that have been replaced without correctly updating the vehicle's **Battery Management System (BMS).**

And that last one is important.

On many modern vehicles, replacing the battery isn't simply a matter of removing the old one and fitting a new one.

The vehicle needs to be told **a new battery has been installed**, and depending on the vehicle, the correct battery type and capacity need to be registered or programmed into the BMS.

If this isn't done, the vehicle can continue managing and charging the new battery based on what it learned from the ageing battery it replaced.

The result?

A brand-new battery that isn't being managed as intended — and potentially a vehicle full of electrical gremlins, communication faults and shortened battery life.

That's why we don't just check whether a battery can start the car. **We test its condition and performance, fit the correct specification battery, and where required, register the replacement correctly with the vehicle.**

Because on a modern vehicle, **battery health isn't just about starting the engine. It's the foundation of the entire electrical system. 🔧🔋**

🔧 Do brake rotors actually warp?

We’ve all heard it before — “My brake rotors are warped.”

But in most cases, what feels like a warped rotor is actually Disc Thickness Variation (DTV).

DTV is when tiny variations in thickness develop around the brake rotor. As the pads pass over these thicker and thinner areas, braking force changes with each rotation — which you feel as brake pedal pulsation or steering wheel shudder.

Sometimes, the difference is only a few hundredths of a millimetre.

This is also why the small details matter when replacing brakes. Rust or debris between the rotor and hub can affect rotor runout, and incorrect or uneven wheel nut torque can contribute too. Over time, excessive runout can lead to DTV developing.

Properly cleaned mating surfaces. Correct wheel nut torque. Properly fitted brakes.

It’s the little details that make the difference. 🔧
