๐จ BYD SHARK 6 RECALL 32,009 VEHICLES AFFECTED ๐ฆ๐บ
BYD has issued a major Australian recall affecting 32,009 Shark 6 vehicles over concerns the spare wheel could detach from underneath the vehicle while driving.
The issue relates to the spare-wheel support cable/lifter assembly. Incorrect installation or positioning of the spare wheel assembly, or insufficient fastening torque, can result in abnormal wear to the cable.
If the cable fails, the spare wheel could potentially fall from the vehicle while it's being driven, creating a hazard for other road users and increasing the risk of serious injury or death.
The recall covers:
๐น 28,543 Shark 6 Premium
๐น 2,100 Shark 6 Performance
๐น 1,366 Shark 6 Dynamic Cab Chassis
๐น 32,009 vehicles in total
๐ธ We've already seen Shark 6 owners taking precautions, with some temporarily using ratchet straps to provide additional support to the spare wheel, as shown in the attached photos.
โ ๏ธ Important: This is something individual owners have chosen to do and is not BYD's official temporary fix.
BYD advises affected owners who continue driving before the recall repair is completed to remove the spare wheel from underneath the vehicle.
The permanent repair involves replacing the spare-wheel lifter assembly with an updated unit, free of charge.
If you own a Shark 6, check your VIN against the recall and get in contact with BYD to organise the repair.
