πŸš› 10 Questions to Ask Your Driver Trainer Before Booking β€” Question 5

Will my training include mountain driving β€” and, more importantly, mountain descents?

It's a great question to ask before booking your truck licence.

Driving a heavy vehicle down a mountain range takes more than pointing the truck downhill and hoping for the best!

Understanding how to manage your speed, select the appropriate gear, use engine braking correctly and maintain control on a descent are important skills for heavy vehicle drivers.

That's why it's worth asking your trainer about the real-world driving experience you'll get during your training.

Here in the Tamworth area, the Moonbi Range gives us an opportunity to talk about the challenges of driving on steep country roads.

Because getting your licence is one thing. Developing the skills to handle the truck safely out on the road is another.

Thinking about getting your truck licence or upgrading to HC or MC?

Hi guys, I'll be at the Wauchope Truck Show this long weekend- come say g'day!

30/09/2026

πŸš› CLARKE’S TRANSPORT RIDES AGAIN! πŸš›

Well... this weekend is going to be a pretty bloody special one for me.

I'm loading up the lovely and mighty Western Star, Una Veronica, and heading back to WAUCHOPE for the Wauchope Truck Show.

And this time, I'm taking my two boys with me in the truck! β€οΈπŸš›

How good is that?

All my old mates from Wauchope...

And all the friends I haven't met yet! πŸ˜‚

Come over, say G'day, have a yarn and check out the truck.

If you've got questions about truck licences, driver training or getting into the transport industry, come and have a chat.

Or maybe you just want to have a look at the mighty Una Veronica.

Come and see me!

❀️ WHY WAUCHOPE IS A LITTLE BIT SPECIAL

For those who don't know my story, this is where it all started for me.

My earliest memory - only four years old when I started riding in my Dad's Ford Louisville woodchip truck to Newcastle with him.

Now I've just turned 50 and yep... I've been hooked ever since! πŸ˜‚

The Clarke’s Transport name and colours have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

So bringing Una Veronica back to Wauchope β€” with my own two boys riding alongside me β€” feels pretty bloody special.

It's a bit of history coming full circle.

Clarke’s Transport rides again. ❀️

πŸš› AND THERE'S A BIT MORE TO THIS TRIP...

Over the past couple of years I've been getting more and more enquiries and work coming from down the coast β€” Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Coffs Harbour and everywhere in between.

And with Todd now on board and getting settled into Clarke’s, I'm starting to look at what the future might look like.

I'm considering heading down the coast for a week at a time, depending on demand, and bringing the Clarke’s training experience with me.

But before I do that...

I want to hear from YOU.

If you're from the Mid North Coast and you've been thinking about getting your:

πŸš› HR licence
πŸš› HC licence
πŸš› MC upgrade
πŸš› Road Ranger training
πŸš› Driver refresher training

COME AND HAVE A YARN WITH ME AT THE TRUCK SHOW.

Tell me what you're looking for.

Tell me where you're from.

Tell me what sort of training you'd like to see available down there.

Because if there's enough demand...

Well, who knows β€” you might be seeing a lot more of Clarke's on the Mid North Coast! πŸ˜‰

πŸ“ WAUCHOPE TRUCK SHOW
πŸš› UNA VERONICA WILL BE THERE
πŸ‘¦πŸ‘¦ MY TWO BOYS WILL BE RIDING WITH ME
❀️ AND I'LL BE WAITING FOR A YARN

All my old mates β€” come and say G'day.

Everyone I haven't met yet β€” come and introduce yourself.

And if you've ever thought:

"I reckon I should get my truck licence..."

Come and have a yarn.

No pressure. No sales pitch.

Just a bloke who loves trucks, his family and the transport industry. ❀️

See you at Wauchope!

🟒 A QUICK UPDATE FROM CLARKE’S 🟒

A few people have been asking when the next Dangerous Goods course will be running.

The honest answer is...

I haven't got a date locked in just yet.

Things have been pretty bloody busy around here lately β€” Ag-Quip, new staff, the heavy vehicle side of the business and, of course, trying to get through a few jobs at home! πŸ˜‚

Rather than throw a DG course on a weekend just for the sake of having one on the calendar, I've decided to put them on hold temporarily.

When I run a course, I want to be able to give it the time, preparation and attention it deserves.

So there won't be a DG course date for the moment.

When I've got the time to do it properly, I'll put the next one on and let you know.

Thanks to everyone who's been asking β€” and thanks for your patience.

In the meantime, the truck and forklift training wheels are still turning! πŸš›πŸ¦ΊπŸ˜‚

Cheers- Deano

Next question to ask before you book your licence: How much time will I actually spend in the truck?

17/09/2026

πŸš› 10 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR DRIVER TRAINER β€” OTHER THAN β€œHOW MUCH?” πŸš›

Righto... first of all, I owe you all an apology! πŸ˜‚

It’s been a bloody while since we continued this series.

Between Ag-Quip, new employees, house renovations and the usual Clarke’s chaos, I’ve been a little bit busy! πŸ˜‚

But we're back!

And tonight’s question is a really important one...

❓ HOW MUCH TIME WILL I ACTUALLY SPEND DRIVING THE TRUCK?

This is one I reckon every person should ask before booking their truck licence.

Because when you’re paying for truck training, you want to be learning to drive a bloody truck! πŸš›

Not sitting in an office...

Not filling out paperwork for hours...

And definitely not spending half the day watching the trainer drink coffee! β˜•πŸ˜‚

You want your bum in the driver’s seat.

The more time you spend actually driving, the more opportunities you have to:

βœ”οΈ Learn how the truck feels
βœ”οΈ Practise your gear changes
βœ”οΈ Get your reversing sorted
βœ”οΈ Learn how to take corners properly
βœ”οΈ Build your confidence
βœ”οΈ Make mistakes in a safe environment
βœ”οΈ And most importantly β€” develop good habits

And this is especially important if you're a Nervous Nellie! πŸ˜‚

You don't magically become confident by sitting in the passenger seat watching someone else drive.

You build confidence by getting behind the wheel and having a go.

At Clarke’s, we want you spending as much time as possible actually driving, learning and improving.

And ladies β€” if you're thinking about getting your truck licence but you're worried you don't know enough about trucks...

That's okay!

You don't need to arrive knowing everything.

You don't need to be a seasoned truckie.

And you certainly don't need to be yelled at!

πŸ˜‚

You just need someone who is prepared to teach you properly, be patient and give you plenty of time behind the wheel.

So before you book your next truck licence, ask:

β€œHow much time will I actually spend driving the truck?”

It might be a more important question than β€œHow much does it cost?”

Anyone can help you get a licence. I want to help you build a career.

More questions coming soon... I promise I won't disappear for another month! πŸ˜‚

Don't let truck roll away on you!- get in this simple good habit- park brakes then neutral.

15/09/2026

πŸš› A GOOD HABIT FOR ANYONE DRIVING A TRUCK πŸš›

Here’s one of the most basic habits I teach every truck driver:

PARK BRAKE β€” THEN NEUTRAL.

Not neutral, then park brake.

Park brake. THEN neutral.

It sounds simple, but a big part of what I do at Clarke’s is helping people get out of their old habits β€” and some of those habits can be pretty bloody agricultural, to say the least! πŸ˜‚

We replace them with new habits that are safer, smarter and become second nature.

This is one of the first ones.

πŸ‘‰ Park brake. Then neutral.

That way, the truck is secured before you take it out of gear.

Because the last thing you want is to jump out, realise the truck is rolling away and suddenly find yourself doing your best Usain Bolt impression trying to catch up with your pride and joy! πŸ˜‚

Good habits save you trouble.

And when you're driving a truck, the little things matter.

That’s what we're about at Clarke’s β€” more than just getting you a licence.

We want to help you build the right habits to drive safely and confidently in the real world.

Anyone can help you get a licence. I want to help you build a career.

πŸš› KYE PEGLER β€” WHAT A BLOODY RIPPER! πŸš›

A few days ago, big Kye Pegler came up from Singleton to take on his HR to MC upgrade.

And when Kye first arrived... 😳

He was nervous as all hell!

But with the help of our young gun trainer Todd Grills, it didn't take long before the big fella started finding his feet β€” and before we knew it, he had the mighty Volvo humming around town! πŸ’ͺ

Up and down the Moonbis...

Two-trailer reversing...

B-double around tight corners...

You name it β€” the big fella did it!

And what a lovely bloke Kye is.

One of the things that really made me smile was how happy he was to have someone stay calm with him, take the time to explain things properly and teach him the correct way to handle a big rig.

And when you're talking about a B-double that's 26 metres long and around 58 tonnes all up, getting that right is bloody important!

Kye went on to put together a near-faultless display for his FCA this afternoon, and honestly...

It was one of the best examples of control and safe driving I've seen for quite some time.

What a turnaround from the nervous bloke who arrived a few days ago. πŸ‘

And then, at the end of the day, Kye wanted a photo with his car parked alongside the Volvo so he could show his kids just how big the setup really is! πŸ˜‚

Mate, you should be bloody proud of yourself.

Great work Kye β€” congratulations on your MC upgrade! πŸΎπŸ‘

And this is exactly the sort of thing I love about what I do.

If you're anything like Kye β€” nervous, unsure, lacking confidence or just a bit bloody scared about stepping outside your comfort zone β€” don't let that stop you.

You don't have to arrive at Clarke's already knowing how to drive a big rig.

That's what we're here for.

Calm, patient, supportive training β€” no yelling, no carrying on, and no making you feel like an idiot for asking questions.

I've had plenty of Nervous Nellies through the gate β€” blokes AND girls! πŸ˜‚

Helping people build their confidence and learn to handle trucks properly is what we do best.

Anyone can help you get a licence. I want to help you build a career.

🌾 AND FARMERS β€” THIS ONE'S FOR YOU! 🌾

We've finally had some good rain around the district.

So what are you waiting for?

Harvest will be here before we know it.

If you've got young blokes, family members or workers who need their truck licence to help move grain, cattle, machinery or other gear around the farm, don't leave it until the last minute.

Places are already filling up.

You know how it goes β€” when harvest arrives, everyone suddenly needs something done yesterday! πŸ˜‚

Get organised now while you've got the chance.

Give me a call and let's have a yarn about what licence is right for you.
