BMW's S1000R hit the highway in 2014 and has never been shy about its racetrack DNA. Compared to the brands halo performance bikes like the R90S from the 70's and K1 from the 80's it's clear there was a new design team on the tools.
12 years on this bike still blitzes the blacktop if your skills and wallet are up for the adventure.

Massimo Tamburini is a handy sort of chap. Back in 1986 he put Yamaha's 130 bhp FJ1200 engine into a stylish, light (210 kg) chassis and covered it with some tasty bodywork. Sadly total production amounted to only 208 examples but to our delight one rolled into Surfside Motorcycle Garage for a Pink Slip on Saturday. With only 26,000 km on the clock the bike is in top order we spent quite a while chatting with the owner about his adventures with the bike.

For those that missed it Rattle Trap was on last weekend.
Adam Chate from the SurfSide Vintage Race team was there on his WLA laying rooster tails and ripping down the beach like it was 1948.
This is an eclectic and very well supported annual event about 300 km up the M1. If you are into pre-WW2 events this is a beauty.

It is Tom Cruise's legendary Kawasaki GPz from Top Gun
Like the Bullitt Mustang and Fast & Furious R34 this bike captured the moment.

Classy. Not a word you would normally use to describe a Ural -the robust adventure chariot we know and love.
As Sydney's authorised sales and service agent we get to work on most models and this 2008 edition in gloss black and chrome has us reaching for the tux and top hat. An ideal ride to an event at the Opera House. Despite its glossy exterior it still has reverse gear and an ability to go where only LandCruisers dare.

Back in black. This Triumph Bonneville was mid way through a restoration when it's owner passed on. The family brought the frame and all the parts to Surfside Motorcycle Garage who completed the project giving them a lasting memory of their Dad. Some jobs are a bit special - this is one of them.

What's an Ossa you ask? Something cool is the answer.
This is a Spanish two stroke made by Orpheo Sincronic Sociedad Anonima (OSSA) who produced a range of bikes including a GP racer from 1924 to 1982. They were resurrected in 2010 and ultimately folded into Gas Gas.
Their reputation rests on a range of competitive trials and enduro bikes. Light, fun to ride and complete with groovey 1970's colours these are very collectible today.

Twin Triumph twins - both are in for gearbox overhauls which is fine considering they are both over 75 years of age.
The silver 1949 Tiger 100 is a much loved 500 cc twin. In production from 1938 to 1959 (with a short break to sort out WW2) and punching out a healthy 33 bhp and weighing about 175 kg dry this is what is known as a pre-unit bike. The gearbox is separate to the engine - like a WLA Harley and most bikes of that era.
Similarly the black bike is a 350cc twin known as a 3T and was available from the end of the war through to 1951 as an entry level bike with 19 bhp punting it's 147 kg down the laneways. This bike also has a pre-unit gearbox making both overhauls an engine in frame job.
The good news is spares are still available so both bikes will be on their way shortly.
