Another year of mixed results for the BYPRACING team at this year’s Sydney300.
Qualifying was a highlight, with both Car 81 and Car 818 securing Pole Position in their respective classes.
The race started strongly, with both cars settling into a consistent pace while managing fuel, brakes and tyres. An early Safety Car on lap 15 presented a strategic opportunity. Car 818 completed its compulsory 2.5-minute stop under caution, while Car 81 stayed out to maximise track position.
Benny moved into the lead in Car 81 and the plan was to complete the compulsory stop during a later Safety Car period. The car was performing well and working through traffic until disaster struck on lap 23. Exiting the final corner, the car lost drive. Initial concerns pointed to a gearbox or differential issue, but further inspection revealed a cracked OEM inner tripod CV joint on the right-hand side. It was a rare failure and the first time the team has experienced this issue in a FWD car.
Driving solo in Car 818, Drew H put together a strong performance and was in contention for an outright podium position. Unfortunately, a rear brake disc rotor issue forced the car’s retirement around lap 60, ending another promising run.
Congratulations to BT Motorsport’s Honda Civic, driven by Tom and Bob, for an outstanding result, finishing 2nd Outright and 2nd in Class B.

The Sydney300 is always a massive event, and we greatly appreciate the effort, commitment and support that goes into making the weekend possible. Despite the disappointing outcomes, there were plenty of positives to take away, and we look forward to coming back stronger next time
