B20 VTEC Dyno Tune 🔧

Not every dyno tune goes smoothly.

Previously tuned on a Hondata S300, the new owner reported that the car just didn’t feel like it was making the power it should.

Being a track-only car makes it difficult to diagnose on the road, so it was booked in for a dyno tune and check-over.

The first issue we picked up was the VSS not working — one of the conditions required for VTEC to engage with the existing settings.

After changing the parameters and confirming VTEC operation, we investigated the VSS wiring further and found heavy corrosion on the connector pins.

Fortunately, it wasn’t a major repair. We had new pins on hand, crimped them in, and the VSS was back working correctly.

Basic checks first before replacing the VSS sensor. Corroded wiring and connectors are a common issue we’ve seen on B-series Hondas over the years.

With everything sorted and the tune dialled in, the B20 VTEC made a healthy 134kW at the wheels and is ready to hit the track. 🏁

🔧 HONDA K-SERIES ENGINE BUILDS

It’s been a busy few weeks at BYP Racing, with 5 K-Series engine builds currently going through the workshop — all destined for forced induction setups ranging from 600HP to 1000HP+.

Over the years we’ve refined our K-Series engine program with proven combinations and a streamlined build process, helping us maintain both quality and turnaround time.

The process starts with the engine being completely stripped before the bare block heads out for:

🔹 Cylinder Support System (CSS)
🔹 Flat Deck
🔹 O-Ring Grooves
🔹 M12 Block Thread Conversion (optional)
🔹 Torque Plate Bore & Hone

At the same time, the cylinder head is sent out for a complete service and preparation.

Within approximately 7–10 days, the block and cylinder head are generally back with us for final cleaning, inspection and assembly.

Every engine gets the full treatment — hardware and components are ultrasonic cleaned, rocker assemblies are completely stripped and cleaned, bearing clearances are measured, piston rings are individually gapped and all critical fasteners are torqued to specification.

There’s also a lot more involved in an engine build than most people realise. Even a basic package can require 30+ individual parts, from forged rods and bearings through to genuine Honda seals, gaskets and timing components.

By specialising in the Honda K-Series platform and keeping many of our commonly used components on the shelf, we’ve been able to achieve typical 2–3 week turnaround times on builds using stocked parts.

600HP+ K-Series Turbo Build 🔥

600HP+ K-Series turbo builds have become a proven combination here at BYP Racing.

This car was shipped down from QLD for the full BYP Racing treatment, with the entire build completed and turned around in just 3 weeks.

Before the car even arrived, the team had already started preparing the transmission and organising the engine components. Having streamlined these builds over the years, we know exactly what’s required to put together a reliable, well-rounded package.

The customer wanted to keep the engine build sensible and within budget, so we went with our budget forged conrod upgrade while retaining the factory K20R pistons. The PRB cylinder head received the full treatment, including a complete head service, Supertech dual valve springs and titanium retainers. Factory camshafts were retained as this remains primarily a street car, with the engine kept below 9,000 RPM.

With plans to convert the car to AWD in the future, we built a 6-speed AWD gearbox capable of supporting the intended power goal of up to 700HP. The transmission package consists of a PPG 1st–4th helical synchro gearset, Wavetrac L*D and 6th gear conversion.

A Turbosmart 6262 replaced the previous Garrett G30-770 to achieve the customer's 600HP target. We modified the existing rear dump pipe to suit the new turbocharger — a straightforward job for the team.

The car was initially loaded onto our in-house chassis dyno to dial in the base settings and tune the wastegate and lower boost maps. From there, it was strapped onto a Mainline Hub Dyno to complete the high-boost tuning.

Running a Haltech Elite 1500 ECU, the final result was:

624HP @ 27 PSI 🔥

Three boost settings were configured, along with boost-by-gear against RPM, giving the customer the flexibility to select the power delivery and boost map to suit how the car is being driven.

The car is now ready to be handed back to its owner to enjoy — before returning to BYP Racing in the near future for its AWD conversion.

Built, tuned and turned around in 3 weeks. Another 600HP+ K-Series package ready for the street.

— EG6 SiR | Period-Correct Performance —

The BYP Racing team recently had the pleasure of working on Benji’s Honda Civic EG6 SiR.

Benji’s goal was to keep the car true to its roots and period-correct, while adding some carefully selected performance upgrades to the original JDM B16A.

The focus was on improving response, drivability and making the most of the high-revving naturally aspirated B-Series package.

After dyno tuning, the B16A produced a healthy 118kW at the wheels, with the ITB setup delivering the sharp throttle response and induction note you’d expect from a classic NA Honda.

We also carried out a few finishing touches to clean up the engine bay, including a battery relocation and an Astra electric power steering pump, neatly mounted inside the driver-side fender to keep the engine bay clean and uncluttered.

A simple and effective package that retains the character of the original EG6 SiR while improving performance where it counts.

🏆 A&M Racing – Winton 300 2026 Winners 🏆

Some wins mean more than just standing on the top step.

A massive congratulations to Aaron and Matthew Guintini on winning the 2026 Winton 300 and taking home their first 300KM endurance race victory in their K20-powered Honda Civic.

This was an incredibly emotional and well-deserved win. After everything these boys have been through over the past few years — the setbacks, long nights, hard work and determination to keep pushing forward — seeing it all come together with a Winton 300 victory was a very special moment.

For us at BYP Racing, this one means a little more too. We’ve been fortunate to be part of the A&M Racing journey from Day 1, supplying parts, sharing technical knowledge and helping guide the development of their race cars along the way.

Watching Aaron and Matthew grow as drivers, develop the car and finally achieve a result like this makes us incredibly proud.

Their Civic is also a perfect representation of what we believe in — a simple, well-developed and reliable FWD race car package that can go out there and compete at the front.
