WK2 Diesel Oil Cooler removal guide, Tips and Coolant Strainer inspection
One of the most common questions we get is whether we have a guide for removing the oil cooler on a WK2 diesel.
We’ve done hundreds of them, but we’ve never actually filmed a proper guide so here it is.
In this video, Dannie walks through the process with the engine out so you can actually see what’s going on. In the car, it’s much tighter, especially around the A/C compressor, but the job is very doable with the right tools and a bit of patience.
You’ll need a quarter drive socket, a 10mm, needle nose pliers, and ideally a bucket unless you enjoy coolant on all of your possesions.
A heads up:
Don’t try to fix oil cooler leaks with silicone.
Replace the Z hose, its easier.
Plug your sensors back in.
And make sure the Z hose isn’t rubbing on the wiring harness, or you’ll be chasing another coolant leak down the track.
This is one of those jobs that looks easy on the bench, but in the car it can be a pain. Hopefully this guide helps anyone tackling it at home.
