Day of the Roses The day of the roses - 1977 Granville Train Disaster On January 1977 Memoral

The day of the roses - 1977 Granville Train Disaster On January 1977, Locomotive 4620 left Mt Victoria in the Blue Mountains at 6.09am heading towards the Sydney Terminal. As the Locomotive neared the Granville Terminal only 2km towards Sydney at 8.12am the trains right hand wheel derailed, the driver applying the brakes instantly in an emergency application, however the train continued in its der

ailed state until it reached a set of facing points causing the train to derail completely and rolling onto its right hand side. The first compartment had the roof ripped off by a damage catenary stanchion, however remained upright, the second compartment remained up-right and undamaged, the third and fourth compartments stopped under the bridge remaining upright. The Bold Street Bridge was supported by steel piers in the centre, in the trains violent derailed state demolished the piers. However ten seconds later more tragedy was to happen, the 200 tone concrete bridge collapsed on top of the third and fourth compartments crushing passengers instantly, bringing down the cars that were crossing the bridge at this time. In result 83 men, women and children lost their lives and another 213 people sustained injuries. For the next 48 hours until the last remaining person was removed from the train, men and women risked their own lives in assisting those trapped and injured these men and women are the unsung heroes of this disaster. Each person connected with this tragedy has a story, with the assistance and dedication of JOHN HENNESSEY some of these stories have been told, however many stories are still untold. If you know of someone connected with this tragedy and have an untold story please feel free to tell your story if you prefer to remain unnamed or wish it to be private please send us a message and JOHN HENNESSEY will get back to you as soon as he can. Please support JOHN HENNESSEY, the survivors and unsung heroes in remembering the lost souls of the Granville Train Disaster of 1977. These names are of each of the 83 souls lost on this tragedy:

Those we love remain with us,
For love itself lives on
Cherished memories never fade.
Because one loved is gone
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart
For as long as there is a memory
They live on in our heart.

Our thoughts and payers are with everybody, as we take the time to remember, the 83 people who died today 38 years ago, those people who survived and forever lived with the memories, friends, families and those that were involved on the day.

We who love you, sadly miss youAs it dawns another yearIn our lonely hours of thinkingThoughts of you are ever near.

The fallen roses
Such beauty and such sorrow

Will we all find tomorrow

But there's no need for tears

For our lord god is near

Mother brings forth a child

The clouds bring forth the rain

The roses bring forth the love

And death brings forth the pain

Respect the ones who fell in battle

And if a friend survived

Hold them close and let them know

You're glad that they're alive

A place where children are What kind of place would heaven be with all its streets of gold, if al, the souls, that dwell up there like your and mine, were old? How strange would heavens music sound wheat harps begin to ring, if children were not gathered 'round to help the angels sing. The children that god send to us are only just a loan, he knows we need their sunshine to make a house a home, we need the inspiration of a baby's blessed smile. He doesn't say they've come to stay, just lends them for a while. Sometimes it tame them years to do work for which they come. Sometimes in just a month or two out father calls them home, I like to think some souls up there bear not one sinful scar. I love to think of heaven as a place where children are
