Mercedes dented by sales decline in January due to with trade hostility, new emissions standards and a shift to electrify their fleets.

Daimler shares have fallen nearly 50 per cent since a high in March 2015, even as sales have continued to set records. Investors have been worried that carmakers must ramp up spending on emissions technology, batteries and better software to compete with new entrants, just as the market turns.
