DKT online is now live

For the first time, customers can pass the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) from the comfort of home, or anywhere they can access the internet.

It’s an accessible path for learner drivers to understand road rules and safe driving behaviours.

The DKT online puts our diverse customers at the centre of the experience. It is fully accessible and includes features like text to speech which make it suitable for people with low literacy and dyslexia. It’s also offered in English and Simplified Chinese.

Customers can attempt the test as many times as needed to pass for one fee, helping to reduce costs associated with obtaining a learner licence. This fee is paid when they go to their local Service NSW centre to apply for their licence.

The DKT can still be completed in-person at a Service NSW Centre.

You can access a communications toolkit with more information on the DKT online. Please help us to promote/raise awareness about the DKT online across your own communications channels.

Did You Know?

Mirrors serve as a safety precaution for drivers and are meant to ensure safe driving. It allows drivers to view the blind spots as well as park better in parking areas. Unfortunately, most careless drivers do not pay attention to the rearview mirror and other important mirrors in their car while driving thus, expose pedestrians and other motorists to the risk of an accident. A quick glance can avert this!

Please, ensure that your car mirrors are well-positioned and clear to enable you to spot vehicles in traffic, and blind spots and avoid collisions easily. It is better to be safe than sorry!!

Eleven days of Double Demerits over the Christmas and New Year holidays 2022/23
We advise motorists that double demerits are in place in NSW and the ACT for 11 days over the Christmas and New Year holidays from Friday, 23 December until Monday, 2 January inclusive.

Double demerit periods typically fall during holiday periods or over long weekends. They run from midnight on the start date to midnight on the finish date and are enforced by police. Please drive safely and take extra care on the roads to protect yourself, your loved ones and all road users.

What offences attract double demerits?
During double demerit periods, double demerit points apply for speeding, illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing a seat belt and riding without a motorcycle helmet.

Keep in mind that Mobile Phone Detection Cameras are active in NSW and the ACT and drivers caught using their phones during a double demerit period will be hit with a $352 fine ($469 in a school zone) and 10 demerits.

Certain driving and parking offences attract an additional demerit point if committed in an operating school zone. Remember to always drive with care and attention through school zones. Be aware that failing to do so can come with heavy penalties.
