Disassembly of my 1981 Yamaha IT250H engine in preparation for a complete gearbox overhaul. 3rd gear was popping in and out of false neutral when I last rode it so I think I might have bent a shift fork and rounded the dogs. Will find out soon enough and share the issues and solutions with you!

The 1960 Volkswagen Beetle is off to metalwork and it’s not that bad considering how terrible these old bugs can get!

I’m excited to start planning for paint and the tail end of this restoration. It’s gonna be a thing of beauty!

This is a very cheap and easy way to convert your late 70’s to early 80’s Yamaha DT175 to 12 Volts!

It gives you much brighter lights for riding at night but also during the day! I often found the 6v indicators not even visible during a sunny day.

The main components of the conversion are;
• 4 pin 12v rectifier from a 12v late 80’s Honda C90 Cub ($30 AUD)
• 12v battery. I prefer black sealed batteries so used an SSB VB3L-B ($40 AUD) but if you’re not as fussy as me get a YB3L, FB3L, CB3L or MB3L. The measurements are spot on to the original.
• 12v headlight bulb. Very tricky to find a 12v version of the original 6v 35w RP35 P15D bulb but I managed to find some in a brighter 45w online ($15 AUD)
• 12v tail light, indicators, idiot light bulbs ($10 AUD)
• 12v flasher ($5 AUD)

The first DT I converted was nearly a decade ago so I know this 100% works. You can find in depth written information, detailed tests and steps online via the yamahaclub.com website titled ‘DT175 MX 12volt conversion’ written by user NE0 😉.

It cost me $30 to convert my 1980 Yamaha DT175 from 6 to 12 Volts. All the information is online but I’ll share a step by step reel over the weekend!

Mocked up the rear guard and made an offset sissy bar from stainless round bar with a 75mm top radius. Came out nice and this 1969 Triumph TR6C is a now proper chopper! 😉

I’ll properly mount them next week and will let you know if I get stuck haha.

This new Milwaukee Mechanics Set is a whole lot better than my disorganised tool bag when on the road 🙌
