We officially have a brand new crossing upgrade at Stony Creek!

Thanks to Equine Crossings Australia, we’ve installed a wider, synthetic crossing designed with both horse and jockey safety in mind.

Our previous crossing presented challenges, particularly with a noticeable lip that could disrupt a horse’s stride. Horses often wouldn’t see the crossing until they were right on top of it, leading to awkward stride changes and issues heading into the turn.

This new upgrade removes that lip entirely and provides a flatter, wider surface. The added cushioning will create a smoother transition, making things safer for both horse and jockey.

A big thank you to Equine Crossings Australia for delivering this important improvement. We’re confident the new crossing will contribute to safer, cleaner racing and further strengthen Stony Creek as a destination for the industry.

Fashions on the Field was a highlight of Cup Day! It was fantastic to see so many contestants across all of the different categories showcasing their finest racing attire before our panel of esteemed judges, Judy Stone, Wendy Bezzina and Karlie Owen.

A huge thank you once again to our host Casey Bruce, the judges, and of course to all of our amazing sponsors for making Fashions on the Field possible!

A highlight of Cup Day is the popular “Fashions on the Field” competition, where contestants will showcase their finest racing attire. The competition will be once again hosted by , and this year will be judged by esteemed judges Judy Stone, Wendy Bezzina and Karlie Owen. 

There will be a strong focus on the local community again this year, with four local categories – Local Lady of the Day, Local Gentleman of the Day, Best Dressed Local Family and Best Dressed Local Group, which are open to residents of South Gippsland only. This is a way for us to give back to the local community that has shown such great support for our club.

Judy Stone has been a wonderful supporter of the Stony Creek Racing Club’s Fashion on the Field for the past 33 years, thanks to her store Influence Clothing in Leongatha. Judy will evaluate each outfit based on its overall style, originality, and appropriateness for a daytime racing event, as well as considering the contestant’s confidence and poise. Thank you Judy for your commitment and loyalty to Club, and your passion for horse racing.

Wendy Bezzina has 10+ years of experience in fashion, including running her own fashion boutique, making her a seasoned expert. She’s also a devoted racegoer and a discerning
Fashions on the Field judge. When Wendy judges, it’s all about your unique style, originality, and meticulous attention to detail – so let your personal flair shine!

Karlie Owen is a passionate racegoer and Fashions on the Field enthusiast. Karlie has competed for 9 years, earning accolades such as Best Dressed Woman at the 2019 Caulfield Cup and runner-up at the 2022 Launceston Cup. She’s also secured multiple FOTF sashes locally and interstate. As the founder of Jettah & Till Design (since 2015), Karlie creates custom and ready-to-wear headwear across Australia and internationally. In 2022, her brand was a finalist for the Lillian Frank AM MBE Millinery Award on Melbourne Cup Day.
