We have disabled daughter who is wheelchair bound, and about to turn 20. Previously we have used an Evo Turney seat in our Nissan Patrol, this seat has served its purpose well, however, our daughter is now heavier and less able to assist in transfers. This resulted in requiring an additional person to be with us on all outings to complete a double lift from chair to vehicle. Weather played a large part in this and if it was raining, we were unable to go anywhere as the seat took too long to completely exit the vehicle and in which time her wheelchair would be sitting in the rain waiting for us to place her in it. We live in a rural area of NSW and generally there is not a lot of undercover disability parking at the shops, Dr’s or Therapy offices etc.
ENTER our modified Kia Carnival! Wow! What a huge difference this has made to our lives. We purchased a low kilometer 2022 Kia Carnival Platinum and placed it the safe hands of the Freedom team.
We are now able to hoist our daughter into her wheelchair at the beginning of the day and go out without having to lift her again. This saves our backs and a whole heap of time. The chair rolls easily into the back of the Kia Carnival and is secured quickly. Our daughter can see out all windows clearly and I am able to keep an eye on her via the rear view mirror. She is positioned nicely between the 2 second row seats and we still have ample room for 2 more passengers or our dog. I am able to take her out by myself which has made such a huge difference. Even if we get stuck in the rain now, all we have to do it prepare her inside the car, this can easily be done by rolling her backwards slightly so one of us can stand in front of the chair and help with putting on her rain coat, with us staying dry inside the car as well. Then it is just a quick dash to wherever we are going.
The fit and finish of the modification is outstanding! It truly looks like it was meant to be this way. There aren’t any squeaks or rattles, we expected a little more road noise with the rear seats gone, but you have to listen very hard to notice any difference.
My husband is a very keen car enthusiast and was completely impressed by the fit and finish, especially the way the rear of the car is cut to accept the ramp, and the re-trimming of the 2nd row seats to look factory. It's details like these that set Freedom Motors above the rest.
The communication from Freedom was good and the delivery time was spot on (actually earlier than predicted). Shauny was helpful both at the Hunter Expo and during the application process to the NDIS. It has been a pleasure to deal with an Australian family owned and operated business.
