The Sandown Greyhound Racing Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Marg Thomas, who passed away peacefully on Sunday 5 July 2026, aged 92.
Marg was a true icon of our sport. As an inaugural inductee into the Greyhound Racing Victoria Hall of Fame and recipient of the prestigious Ken Carr Medal, her contribution to greyhound racing over many decades was extraordinary.
A former President of the Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club, Marg was a passionate advocate for the industry, a wonderful ambassador, and a gifted storyteller whose warmth, humour and trademark cheekiness brought joy to so many.
Marg's legacy extends far beyond her many achievements. She inspired generations through her unwavering dedication, generosity, and love of greyhound racing.
On behalf of everyone at the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her children, Cheryl, Michelle, and Dale, together with her extended family and many friends.
The Club is proud to continue honouring Marg's remarkable legacy through the Marg Thomas Award, presented annually at our Women in Racing event in recognition of the outstanding contribution women make to our industry.
Rest peacefully, Marg. Your legacy will live on through the people, the sport, and the community you helped shape. You will be missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral Details:
Marg's funeral will be held at 10:30am on Friday 17 July 2026 at Meeniyan Hall (97 Whitelaw Street, Meeniyan).
