Hey everyone, sorry we’ve been a bit quiet lately — it’s been flat out in the workshop!
We wanted to share this one as a bit of an eye-opener 👇
If you own a 2.0L Ranger, Transit (or similar) with the well-known wet belt setup, Ford has reduced the recommended service interval from 240,000km down to 160,000km.
Based on what we’re seeing in the workshop, we’d strongly suggest considering replacement closer to 120,000km to be on the safe side.
This particular 2.0L Ford Transit came in at 160,000km with a perfect service history — all done on time through a Ford dealership until we took over the last few services using quality oils and filters.
As you’ll see in the photos:
• The oil pickup was nearly 1/3 blocked with belt material
• The timing belt was already showing clear signs of deterioration
This is on a well-maintained vehicle — which really shows how important it is to stay ahead of these.
If services are missed or the incorrect oil is used, these belts can break down even faster and cause serious engine damage.
Yes, it’s not the cheapest job to carry out — but it’s a whole lot better than facing a repair bill in the tens of thousands for a new engine.
