✈️ Bristol Cars came out of the Bristol Aeroplane Company, and it built cars the way it had built aircraft: by hand, in small numbers, and sold from a single London showroom. The Beaufighter arrived in 1980, a turbocharged development of the Zagato-designed 412, and it was the first British luxury car with a turbocharged V8 under the bonnet — though TVR had got Britain its first turbocharged production car back in 1976.
The engine is a 5.9-litre Chrysler V8, quoted at around 300bhp, and Bristol never published an official figure. Nor did it publish production numbers: this 1987 car is said to be the 16th of just 18 built, though club records disagree. Handsome, or just odd?
