Five years ago, Flex Your 4x4 Mechanical started with one goal- build a workshop that 4WD owners could confidently come back to time and time again for everything 4x4.

After years in the trade, Stu wanted to create a place where the advice was honest, the workmanship was solid, and every vehicle was treated like it was his own.

Today, not much has changed.

Planning to go off-roading this winter?

Whether you're tackling the Climies Track on the West Coast, exploring easier tracks around the Blue Tier, or heading to Sandy Cape, tassie's cold and wet winter conditions can humble even the best setups...

Before you head off, here's three things to think about upgrading :

✔️ Suspension – Better control, better comfort, and a whole lot more confidence when the tracks get rough.
✔️ Tyres – Good all-terrains will make more difference than most bolt-on accessories ever will.
✔️ Wheel bearings & brakes – Not the most exciting upgrade, but they'll save you a lot more grief than a new light bar.

A little bit of prep before the trip beats trying to organise a SOS in the middle of nowhere.

You can try deny it, but we know .

Hilux.
You just want something that starts every morning and gets the job done. You don't care about trends, horsepower figures or what anyone says online. It works. It always works. You'll probably own one for the next 20 years.

Patrol.
You've spent more on it than it's worth and you'd do it again tomorrow. You've got a TD42, want a TD42, or spend your nights arguing online about TD42s. You call breakdowns "character building". Half your mates have told you to sell it. Half your mates own Patrols too.

LandCruiser.
You owned the Ranger. You learned. Now you've bought something that'll still be running when your kids are driving it. You paid cash or close to it. You've got a drawer system in the back and a fridge that's never empty. You paid a ridiculous amount for it, everyone said not to, and somehow you still reckon it was worth every cent.

Ranger.
You've got a lift kit, flares, a light bar and enough accessories to invade a small country. Looks unreal parked outside the pub. You've got a bull-bar that's hit more roos than you can count. Might even see some dirt this weekend.

Raptor.
