Rotomaster Distribution was formed in 1984. Rotomaster was an American turbocharger manufacturer and we were the Australian distributor. In the late 1980s Garrett bought the Rotomaster turbocharger division in the USA and through this purchase we became a Master Garrett distributor in Australia. 💨 Another turbo brought back to life! 🔧

This BorgWarner turbo from a Hyundai Veloster came into the workshop. We found the turbine shaft had been bent and the compressor wheel had suffered from foreign object damage.

A core replacement was needed, including everything housed within the bearing housing, as well as the turbine shaft and comp wheel.

The past couple of months have been busy for the RM Turbochargers team! 🌍✈️

Gerard and Geoffrey attended the Association of Australasian Diesel Specialists (AADS) Conference, where they showcased RM Turbochargers with a trade display and enjoyed catching up with industry professionals, customers, and suppliers.

Gerard then headed to Barcelona to attend the Garrett Worldwide Conference, where he connected with Garrett representatives and fellow distributors from around the world, gained insight into the latest turbocharger technology, and explored what's next for the industry.

HOW A TURBO SYSTEM WORKS
1. Compressor Inlet
Opening through which ambient air passes before entering the compressor.
2. Compressor Discharge
Ambient air is then compressed which raises the air’s density (Mass / unit volume)
3.Charge Air Cooler (aka Intercooler)
Cools the compressed air to increase its density and to increase resistance to detonation.
4. Intake Manifold
Directs dense air into the engine’s cylinders. Each cylinder draws in an increased mass flow rate of air. Higher air mass flow rate allows higher fuel flow rate (with similar air/fuel ratio). Combusting more fuel results in more power for a given displacement.
5. Exhaust Manifold
Directs burned fuel and exhaust gasses from the cylinders towards the turbine.
6. Turbine Inlet
Directs high temperature exhaust gas towards the turbine wheel. The turbine creates back pressure on the engine which means engine exhaust pressure is higher than atmosphere pressure.
7. Turbine Discharge
A pressure and temperature drop occurs (expansion) across the turbine, which harnesses the exhaust gas energy to provide the power necessary to drive the compressor wheel.
