🚨 MISSING: NSW Registration Stickers. Last Seen 2013. Reward: $818 in Fines. $1800 in most cases
Remember peeling that little green sticker off and putting it on your windscreen? In 2013, the NSW Government said we didn't need them anymore. They said it would save money and was "more convenient."
Here's what actually happened:
✅ Fines EXPLODED: Revenue from unregistered driving fines more than doubled after stickers were removed. The government now makes millions more from our forgetfulness than it ever saved on Fine Increases: In 2010, before the change, fines totaled about $17.4 million. By 2013, the year stickers were abolished, fines had risen to $35.5 million. A more recent analysis suggests this trend has continued.
Fines now far outweighs the $575,000 printing savings. Question whether policy should profit from common forgetfulness.
❌ Zero Visual Reminder: No sticker means no daily nudge. Even if a postal reminder gets lost (and that's not a valid excuse), you're driving blind until you get a fine or, worse, have an accident.
⚠️ You Are UNINSURED: This is the critical part. If your rego lapses, your Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is VOID. A simple lapse could leave you personally liable for millions in medical bills from a crash.
Queensland listened. NSW should too.
In 2021, Queensland reversed their decision and brought stickers BACK after public outrage over the same spike in fines. It proved that a simple, cheap sticker is a vital safety net.
📣 WE ARE CALLING FOR NSW TO BRING THE STICKERS BACK.
This isn't about convenience. It's about proactive safety, fairness, and stopping a revenue-raising trap.
