Batteries!! What are the differences between them and their uses in 12v applications?
Lithium Batteries:
Lithium batteries are a type of rechargeable battery that uses lithium as an electrolyte to store and release energy. Lithium batteries are commonly used in caravans and dual battery setups because of their high energy density, long lifespan, and low self-discharge rate. They also have a fast charging rate and are lightweight.
AGM Batteries:
AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat batteries, and they are a type of lead-acid battery. AGM batteries are sealed, maintenance-free batteries that use a glass mat to absorb the electrolyte instead of a liquid. This design makes AGM batteries more durable, resistant to vibration, and less prone to leaking compared to traditional flooded lead-acid batteries. AGM batteries are commonly used in marine, caravan and dual battery setups.
Lead-Acid Batteries:
Lead-acid batteries are the oldest and most common type of rechargeable battery. They use a combination of lead, lead oxide, and sulfuric acid to store and release energy. Lead-acid batteries are reliable, low-cost, and available in a wide range of sizes and voltages. However, they are heavy, require regular maintenance, and have a shorter lifespan compared to lithium batteries.
In summary
Lithuim:
Pros - Lithium batteries are lightweight, have high energy density and long lifespan.
Cons - They are expensive at this current point in time.
Agm:
Pros- AGM batteries are sealed and maintenance-free with better durability and resistance to vibration, Low Cost, Reliable.
Cons - Heavy and require regular maintenance.
Lead Acid
Pros - Commonly Avaialable, Cheap, Relatively Reliable
Cons - Heavy, Low life Span
