We know taking the helm of your own yacht for the first time can feel like a big step. That’s why we don’t just hand you the keys and send you on your way.

Before you leave Shute Harbour, our experienced team will take you through a comprehensive briefing covering everything you need to know, including:

⚓ How to operate the helm and controls
⚓ Steering, manoeuvring and using the engines
⚓ Anchoring and picking up moorings
⚓ Navigation and reading charts
⚓ Safety equipment and procedures
⚓ Understanding the local conditions and planning your route
⚓ How to put the sails up

You’ll have time to ask questions, practice with your briefer and build confidence before you begin exploring.

"Do we have to cook every meal?" 🍳⛵

Not unless you want to.

One of the biggest misconceptions about a bareboat holiday is that you'll spend your entire trip planning meals and cooking.

The reality? You have options.

Many of our guests choose to keep things simple:
🥐 Easy breakfasts on deck.
🥗 Fresh salads and grazing platters for lunch.
🔥 BBQ dinners while watching the sunset.

If you'd rather spend more time relaxing and less time in the galley, there are fantastic local provisioning companies that specialise in bareboat charters.

They can stock your yacht before you arrive with everything from groceries to fresh, ready-to-eat meals—so dinner is as easy as heating it up and enjoying it with an incredible view.

If you've been feeling unsure about booking a bareboat charter, perhaps Simon's experience will inspire you.

"Whitsunday Rent A Yacht provided us with a very well looked after and fully fitted out catamaran. Everything was in great working order and maintained to a high standard.

What particularly impressed us was the initial briefing and familiarisation with the boat. Mark, a highly experienced yachtsman, took us through the boat and then took us onto the water to ensure that skipper and crew were comfortable with anchoring and picking up moorings before we set off. He also provided valuable advice on first night anchorages which gave us a great deal of much needed confidence as we were setting off into 25 to 35 knots of wind and I will confess, we were a little anxious.

The twice daily radio check in’s were also a great confidence booster. We were reassured that the base was keeping an eye on us and it was good to have regular weather updates and discuss our plans for the next day to make sure we were attempting a suitable itinerary.

The weather moderated throughout the week and we had the most fantastic holiday. Hamilton Island was a great stop for one night to replenish supplies and the staff there provided excellent assistance with mooring. But the highlight of the week was undoubtedly our visit to the spectacular Whitehaven Beach and night at Tongue Bay. Thank you WRAY"
