📖 Not every issue we find is mechanical…..

During our recent pre purchase inspection on this 2017 Mazda BT-50, one thing stood out straight away before we started, there was no service history available with the vehicle.

Service records are one of the best indicators of how well a vehicle has been maintained throughout its life. They can help confirm servicing has been completed on time, identify major repairs or replacements completed and provide buyers with confidence in their potential purchase.

While a vehicle may look great in photos and present well in person, a missing service history can leave important questions unanswered.

Before purchasing any vehicle, always ask to see the service books and maintenance records. They can tell you far more about a vehicle than its appearance ever will.

A vehicle can look great during an inspection and drive well on a test drive, but that doesn’t always tell the full story…….

This 2010 Mitsubishi ASX was recently inspected for a local client who wanted peace of mind before purchasing. During our assessment, we identified a number of worn components that required attention. We also discovered that the vehicle had been unregistered since December 2025.

What made this finding even more surprising was that our client had already test driven the vehicle and was completely unaware of its registration status.

Although this wasn’t the result they were hoping for, they were thankful they organised an inspection with BVI before committing to the purchase. With our client being provided with the correct information, they were able to walk away and continue their search for a vehicle that suited them.

It’s the finer details that count 🔍

We recently inspected this 2022 Mazda 6, which presented very well for its age and kilometres. At first glance, the vehicle appeared to be in excellent condition, but it’s often the finer details that tell the full story.

During our inspection, we identified evidence of previous paint repairs to the left front area. While the repairs were relatively minor, our paint thickness gauge readings indicated refinishing work had been carried out. We also noted slight inconsistencies in the panel gaps between the front guards, further supporting the findings.

These are the types of details that can easily go unnoticed during a standard viewing but can play an important role in a buyer’s decision making process.

A pre purchase inspection isn’t just about identifying major faults, it’s about providing a complete picture of the vehicle’s true condition so our clients can purchase with confidence.

Trail & Inspect before you buy 🚗💨

This Ranger Wildtrak X was recently inspected for a client who had purchased the vehicle from a large Sydney dealership offering a 7 day money back guarantee.

Although the vehicle presented well and our client was happy with their purchase, they wanted the reassurance of a comprehensive independent inspection before the trial period expired.

Our inspection found this Ranger to be in good overall condition, however we did identify a minor oil leak from the front timing case cover along with some other minor cosmetic issues. As the vehicle was still covered by Ford’s factory warranty, our client was able to have the issue addressed before it became a larger concern.

These dealer back trial periods are becoming more common and can be a great opportunity for buyers to have a vehicle independently inspected whilst in the trail phase before fully committing to the purchase.

In this case, the identified concerns were successfully rectified through the dealer and Ford, leaving our client with added confidence in their new vehicle.

2018 Toyota LandCruiser Sahara Pre Purchase

This 200 series Sahara LandCruiser had caught the attention of our client based in Far North NSW, however with the vehicle located on the South Coast, they wanted an independent inspection completed before committing to the purchase.

Buying a vehicle from a distance can be stressful….

That’s why our client, based in Central NSW recently engaged us to carry out a comprehensive pre purchase inspection before making the long trip to collect this 2017 Honda CR-V.

Our client had a few concerns regarding the vehicle’s overall condition due to its age and kilometres travelled. After conducting our detailed inspection, we found only minor cosmetic imperfections to some of the body panels and noted that all four tyres were coming up for replacement. Aside from these items, the vehicle presented in very good condition and was a strong example for its age and kilometres.

With a detailed BVI report, extensive photos, and independent advice, our client was able to make an informed decision with confidence. We’re pleased to say they proceeded with the purchase and advised that the vehicle was exactly as described in our report and exactly what they were looking for.

2023 Ford Raptor Pre Purchase 🔍

This 2023 Ford Raptor was recently inspected for our client based in South Australia who was looking to purchase the vehicle sight unseen from South Coast BMW in Wollongong. Before committing to the purchase, our client wanted a comprehensive independent inspection completed to verify the condition of the vehicle and ensure it matched the dealers description.

During our inspection we found only minor items, including a minor paint blemish on the bonnet near the L/H air vent, slight outer edge wear on both front tyres and the roller shutter tracks requiring adjustment/attention. Other than these findings, the vehicle presented in great condition overall both cosmetically and mechanically and passed our in-depth inspection ✅

Another successful interstate inspection completed, giving our client the confidence to move forward with the purchase 🤝

Can you spot anything on this 2018 Audi RS4❔

We recently carried out our comprehensive pre purchase inspection on this 2018 Audi RS4 for a local client who wanted the vehicle professionally assessed before committing to the purchase.

On presentation, this RS4 looked like a clean example. Equipped with BC Gold coilovers and Vossen forged wheels, it certainly had the right appearance and stance. However, as with every inspection we perform, we looked far beyond the cosmetics.

During testing with our digital paint thickness gauge, we identified inconsistent paint readings throughout the R/H/F area of the vehicle including the bonnet, R/H front guard, driver’s door and R/H A pillar. Further inspection revealed signs of previous repair work, replacement components that did not align correctly and paint imperfections that suggested the repairs had not been completed to manufactures standard.

Following these findings, we conducted a PPSR check which confirmed the vehicle had previously been listed as a repairable write off in Victoria before later being cleared in QLD and then returning to NSW.

This is a perfect example of why a vehicle should never be judged purely on appearance. Hidden repair history can easily go unnoticed without the correct equipment, experience and attention to detail.

2013 Subaru WRX RS40 Pre Purchase Inspection 🏁

We recently carried out a comprehensive pre purchase inspection on this 2013 Subaru WRX RS40 build number 49/300 for a local client after this rare example caught their eye sitting on the front lot of a dealership.

After spotting the vehicle by chance, our client was keen to move forward with the purchase but wanted peace of mind knowing the vehicle was mechanically and structurally sound before committing.

Upon inspection, this WRX presented in great overall condition for its age. Only minor paint imperfections and general wear items were identified, with no major concerns detected throughout the inspection process. Considering this vehicle is now 13 years old, it was a very tidy and well presented example.

Most importantly, our clients were stoked with the results and confidently proceeded with the purchase knowing exactly what they were buying.
