Standardising fleet vehicle fitouts can improve consistency, simplify procurement and make future rollouts easier to manage.

However, successful standardisation does not mean installing exactly the same shelving and equipment into every vehicle.

Different technicians may carry different tools, perform different tasks or operate from different vehicle models. The objective is to create a controlled fleet standard that covers the majority of requirements while allowing defined variations where they are operationally necessary.

Here is a practical process for developing that standard: https://vquip.com.au/blog/how-do-i-standardise-fleet-vehicle-fitouts/

Reducing waste doesn’t just happen on the factory floor.

In a service fleet, waste can look like technicians searching for tools, returning to the depot for forgotten equipment, carrying unnecessary weight or working from inconsistent vehicle layouts.

Lean thinking encourages fleet managers to look at each service vehicle as part of the operational process.

By designing fitouts around technician workflows, standardising proven layouts and gathering regular feedback from end users, fleets can reduce unnecessary movement, improve consistency and help technicians work more efficiently.

Small improvements to storage, accessibility and layout can create significant benefits when multiplied across an entire fleet.

In our latest article, we explore what fleet managers can learn from lean manufacturing and how these principles can be applied to service vehicle design.

Designed as a mobile workshop and warehouse, this fitout features:

✅ Hand mower and hand tool storage frame
✅ Full-height shelving for equipment and consumables

We’re excited to welcome Alex Sutherland to the VQuip team as our newest Pre-Production Engineer, based at our Scoresby facility.

Alex brings a strong problem-solving mindset and an enthusiastic can-do attitude to the design team. He plays a key role across the entire pre-production process, from developing detailed concept designs for customers through to preparing shop drawings ready for production.

His ability to think creatively and work through complex challenges helps ensure fitouts are practical, efficient, and fit for purpose.

Q: What’s your go-to productivity tip?
A: Make sure to have organised what needs to be done before you start doing it, so that you have a clear plan on every task you need to do to finish your work.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Finding creative ways to solve problems for our clients. Each job brings a unique set of challenges and I find it very satisfying to find a good and interesting solution that fits their needs.

Q: What’s a hobby or interest you have outside of work?
A: I try to keep myself busy as often as possible, so when I’m not working, I’m either doing sports, working on one of my cars or practicing music. If I don’t have anything to keep me occupied I tend to go a bit stir-crazy.

Q: Coffee or tea?
Coffee: A long black if I’m working, a mocha if I’m relaxing.

Welcome to the team, Alex.
