Part 5/7 – Supporting the Caliper & Removing the Rotor

In this part of our 7-part series, we show how to safely support the caliper and remove the rotor.

“I’ve undone the caliper right under the bolt and then supported it up top. I’ve also undone that hose so it doesn’t get stretched — that’s not good for the hoses.

Now I put a bolt in like this, and then there’s the other one where you wind it in, and it pops the rotor off. No need to whack it or force it at all.”

Part 4/7 – Removing the Caliper & Rotor

In this part of our 7-part series, we go through removing the caliper and checking the rotor.

“I’m working on the brakes of this LandCruiser. I’ve got to undo that 19mm bolt and the one down below, then the caliper will come off.

You can see there’s some glazing on the rotor. These have a minimum thickness of 21mm, and they’re currently at 32mm, so there’s still a bit to go.

To remove them, Toyota has a handy setup — instead of trying to knock the rotor off, you put bolts into the designated holes, and it pops the whole rotor off.”

In this part of our 7-part series, we show what comes off your brakes during a service.

“I’m working on the brakes of this LandCruiser and have put a bit of cardboard down to stop all the brake dust getting onto the floor it makes cleaning up a lot easier.

But this is exactly what comes off your brakes and ends up all over your wheels. As you can see, it’s quite thick, that’s all brake dust.”

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝟳 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 – today we’re showing you how to check the brake pads on your LandCruiser.

While carrying out a service, it’s not always easy to clearly see how much pad is left just by looking through the wheel. From a quick glance, you might get an idea if they’re running low—but it’s not always accurate.

To properly check your brake pads, sometimes the best option is to remove the wheel and take a closer look. It’s much easier (and safer) when the vehicle is on a hoist, giving you a clear view of what’s really going on.

This is exactly why fuel filters need servicing.

Luke’s working on a Ford Everest that already has an aftermarket pre-filter fitted.

You might assume that means the main fuel filter stays clean.

It doesn’t.

Compare the old filter to a new one and the difference is obvious — but it gets even more interesting when you look at what’s sitting in the bottom.

Those little fragments Luke wiped out?

That’s the sort of contamination floating around in your fuel system.

And that’s exactly why fuel filters are there.

Even with a pre-filter fitted, your main fuel filter still needs to be checked and changed when required.

A fuel filter isn’t an expensive service item compared with the diesel components it’s helping protect.

So next time your vehicle is being serviced:

✅ Ask them to check the fuel filter
✅ Replace it when needed
✅ Don’t assume an aftermarket pre-filter means you can skip it
