Fun Over 50 Holidays

🚌🌵 The outback is calling… and travellers are answering!

We’re excited to welcome Fun Over 50 Holidays guests back to Quilpie Shire — something we look forward to each year — and especially excited to be part of their new Backing the Outback journeys ❤️

Created in response to recent fuel concerns impacting travel decisions, this goodwill initiative encourages visitors to keep exploring regional Queensland and support the communities, businesses and experiences that make the outback so special. Fun Over 50 Holidays has generously donated the use of their Gold Class coach, driver and tour host to help make it happen 🤠✨

These special journeys travel through South West Queensland, visiting the Roma Revealed, Experience Charleville, Visit Quilpie Shire - Your Outback Adventure, Explore Bulloo, Cunnamulla Tourism & Events and St George Region — bringing visitors into our towns to stay, explore, dine and experience true outback hospitality.

Whether you travel by coach, caravan or car — there’s never been a better time to discover South West Queensland. We can’t wait to welcome this year’s groups and share everything that makes Quilpie Shire unforgettable 🌅

⛽️ SWQ TACKLING FUEL FEARS: PUTTING PLANNING POWER IN THE HANDS OF TRAVELLERS & COMMUNITIES

Today, we're proud to launch our region's fuel availability platform - SWQ Fuel Tracker - designed to restore traveller confidence and support local economies across the region.

The landmark platform provides up-to-date information on fuel supplies across six South West Queensland councils – Balonne, Bulloo, Maranoa, Murweh, Paroo and Quilpie - allowing travellers to click on individual towns and view current availability of unleaded petrol, diesel, Jet A1 and avgas.

👩🏻‍💻 Access the SWQ Fuel Tracker at: https://fueltracker.swqroc.com.au/

The initiative comes in response to growing concerns from tourism operators, business and community, who have reported booking cancellations or cancelled events due to uncertainty around fuel access.

SWQROC Chair and Balonne Shire Mayor Cr Samantha O’Toole, said the platform demonstrates the region’s proactive approach to supporting both visitors and local businesses.

💡 “This is a practical, forward-thinking solution to a real challenge facing our communities,” Mayor O’Toole said.

“We know confidence is critical for tourism, and right now travellers need reassurance that they can move safely and reliably throughout our region. It also comes at the perfect time with the region looking its absolute best after good seasonal rains.”

“By providing transparent information, we’re empowering visitors to plan their journeys and continue supporting our towns during a vital time of year.”

🤝 “This platform is just one part of a broader effort to support our communities during this uncertain time. It also goes hand in hand with our ongoing communication with state and federal representatives, industry, and tourism bodies.”

Developed in-house, the platform will be updated by council staff who have established communication protocols with local service stations to receive regular fuel updates.

SWQROC Deputy Chair and Murweh Shire Mayor Shaun Radnedge said fuel availability, not necessarily price, had been the primary concern raised by travellers.

🚗 “Price does affect some travellers, but it’s availability that worries them the most,” Cr Radnedge said.

“This platform gives people the confidence to visit South West Queensland, explore further, and stay longer.”

“With our tourism season just starting we didn’t want to wait weeks for a broader solution - we acted quickly because our communities and businesses need support now.”

🛡️ “This initiative is about backing our operators, protecting local jobs, and ensuring our towns remain vibrant and viable.”

With clear skies, refreshed landscapes and iconic South West Queensland experiences on offer, SWQROC is encouraging travellers to start planning their trip now.

🌼 “South West Queensland is ready,” Mayor O’Toole said.

“Jump on the fuel tracker, talk to our local visitor information centres, and come and experience a South West season that’s shaping up to be one of the best in years.”
