1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL

This isn’t just an old Mercedes. Back in 1991, the 500SL was one of the most expensive and prestigious cars you could buy in Australia.

Powered by a silky smooth 5.0L V8, the 500SL combined sports car performance with luxury that was decades ahead of its time. Electric memory seats, a power convertible roof, leather interior, advanced safety systems and impeccable German engineering made it a true flagship vehicle.

When new, a 500SL cost around $238,000 in Australia in 1991. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of spending around $1.1 million on a brand-new luxury car today.

Over 30 years later, this particular example still turns heads and proves why the R129 SL is considered one of Mercedes-Benz’s greatest ever designs.

They simply don’t build them like this anymore. 🔥🚗✨

🤩This customer brought in his beloved work ute for a . 🤩

The paint was extremely oxidised and so thin in some spots that it became more about preservation over perfection. The type where you rub your hand over it and find a heap of white residue on your fingers.

There were scratches, nicks and bumps all over, as you’d expect from a hard-working ute. Normally you’d compound a lot of that out, but with paint this thin, you’ve got to be careful where you push it.

This is where it gets interesting… while some ceramic coatings will actually highlight those imperfections, the one we use helps soften their appearance, leaving a much cleaner, more uniform finish.

In the end, it brought the paint back to life and locked in a solid layer of protection for the long haul. It looks gorgeous🚗✨
