Car A is on Car B's right, and under NSW road rules you give way to any vehicle already in the roundabout, and to any vehicle approaching from your right that will reach the roundabout before you. From Car B's angle, Car A ticks that second box.

Roundabouts are one of the most common spots where a learner drive turns tense for no good reason. The rule is simpler than it feels, and it never changes.

Where it usually gets tripped up:

1. Indicating on approach. Signal left if you are turning left, right if you are turning right, and no signal on approach if you are going straight through

2. Indicating on exit. Every time, even if you are going straight through. Signal left as you pass the exit before yours

3. Choosing the correct lane before you enter, not once you are already in the roundabout

Road Rules Awareness Week is a good chance to reset on the calls you make on autopilot.

Q: Can learner drivers use a reverse camera when parking in NSW?

A: Yes. Learner drivers in NSW are allowed to use a reverse camera while parking, but it should only be used as an additional visual aid, not as a replacement for proper observation.

During a NSW driving test, learners are still expected to perform head checks and physically look through the rear window when reversing.

A few important things to remember:
✔ Examiners expect drivers to predominantly look backwards over their shoulder when reversing
✔ Relying only on the camera or mirrors can result in an immediate fail
✔ Automated self-parking or park assist features must be switched off during the test
✔ Portable reversing camera screens or GPS devices must be securely mounted and not obstruct the driver’s view
