⭐ Why you should consider Comprehensive Insurance
Comprehensive insurance gives you the highest level of protection:

Your own car is covered — accidents, theft, fire, hail, storms, vandalism.

Other people’s cars/property — if you hit someone else, your insurer pays.

Extra benefits — roadside assistance, hire car after an accident, windscreen cover, towing, emergency accommodation (varies by insurer).

Peace of mind — you’re not left with a huge repair bill if something happens.

Comprehensive is usually best if:

Your car still has reasonable value,

You can’t afford to replace it out of pocket,

You want protection from weather events (hail/flood), theft, or animal strikes.

🚗 What if you have an older car?
If your car is older and not worth much, comprehensive may cost more than the car is worth. In that case, many people choose Third Party Property instead.

But remember:
If you crash into a new Mercedes, you could owe tens of thousands. Third Party Property protects you from that financial risk.

Driving Safely in Fog & Mist – Stay Alert, Stay Safe
Fog and mist can roll in quickly around the Mid North Coast, making the roads feel unfamiliar and reducing visibility more than most drivers realise. Here are a few simple tips to help keep you and others safe on the road:

Slow down — reduced visibility means reduced reaction time.

Use low‑beam headlights — high beams reflect off fog and make it harder to see.

Fog lights if your vehicle has them.

Increase following distance — give yourself extra space to stop safely.

Avoid sudden braking — slow, steady movements help everyone around you.

Follow the left line — it’s easier to track than the centre line in low visibility.

Pull over if visibility becomes unsafe — better to wait a few minutes than risk a collision.

Fog can make familiar roads feel unpredictable. Taking a few extra precautions can make all the difference.

Stay safe out there – from the Team @ Fix Auto PM.

Living in our region means sharing the roads with plenty of wildlife — especially kangaroos. We see a lot of animal‑strike damage come through our workshop, and one question we hear often is:

“Why does my insurance say I’m ‘at fault’ when a kangaroo hit me?”

🚗 Why Insurance Classes It as “At Fault”
Even though you didn’t cause the accident, insurers classify animal strikes as “at‑fault incidents” because:

There is no other party to claim against

The insurer cannot recover costs from anyone else

The policyholder becomes the responsible party by default

This means you will usually need to pay your excess unless your policy specifically waives it for animal collisions.

🦘 Tips to Reduce the Risk of Hitting Kangaroos
While it’s not always avoidable, these steps can help:

Slow down at dawn and dusk — peak kangaroo movement times

Use high beams when safe to do so

Scan the road edges — kangaroos often sit just off the shoulder

Don’t drive too close to the vehicle in front — you need reaction time

If you see one kangaroo, expect more — they rarely travel alone

⚠️ Important: Australian Law on Swerving
It may feel instinctive to swerve to avoid an animal, but under Australian road rules:

You must maintain control of your vehicle at all times

Swerving into oncoming traffic or off the road can be considered negligent driving

Drivers are advised to brake firmly in a straight line, rather than swerving

Swerving often causes far more serious accidents than the animal strike itself.

🛠️ If You’ve Hit a Kangaroo
We repair animal‑strike damage regularly and can help guide you through the claim process. If you need advice or a quote, feel free to contact us.

Stay safe on the roads — especially during kangaroo season.

When the rain sets in, so do the risks on our roads. With the wet weather around, we’re reminding everyone to take a moment and drive with extra care.

🚗 Simple steps that make a big difference:
Turn on your headlights — even during the day, it helps others see you

Slow down — wet roads mean longer stopping distances

Increase your following distance

Avoid sudden braking — brake gently to prevent skidding

Watch for water pooling — even shallow water can cause hydroplaning

Use your demister — keep your vision clear

Check your tyres — good tread is essential in the wet

Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe during this weather.
From the team at Fix Auto Port Macquarie, stay safe and take it slow out there.
