A saying used a lot through life is a mistake is one of the best teachers. When it comes to your vehicle that shouldn’t apply.
We’ve had lots of inquires lately about our on vehicle services. Unfortunately nearly all the vehicles were not within parameters where we would recommend nor conduct the on vehicle service. Reasons most commonly came down to serious engine issues or high kms. We also will never conduct nor recommend an on vehicle DPF clean. Why?
Every service we offer or conduct has been trialled and tested at our expense before ever touching a customers car. This took many years and lots of money spent on ,for example DPF units to use as test dummies. The above image is of a DPF we conducted an on vehicle DPF clean on. In less than 10000km the car was in limp mode and DPF was in a bad way.
Regeneration heat is calibrated to cover a surface area and flow rate. In this case the on vehicle clean took a path of least resistance where the data gave the impression of an acceptable unit but really all that heat was getting channeled down a small area causing heat damage and collapse. The cheapest options are not always good in the long run and the information out there is very misleading with little or no accountability for long term damage. There seems to be plenty of Carbon clean businesses popping up everywhere which is awesome as the technology works great if the vehicle is suitable for such a service . Unfortunately there seems to be many out there who are not licensed mechanics (no licence means no liability) , not interested in explaining all options in fear of not being booked and when there is a complaint hard to track. The best we’ve heard from a customer is when questioning an “operator”why the induction tract is as fouled as before the service the answer given was you booked an engine Carbon clean not inlet clean 🤦‍♂️ Situations like that are why there is so little trust in the automotive industry.

Have you removed the exhaust components whilst working on a vehicle? Why not get the CAT and or DPF serviced at the same time like Europort.
This CAT came in for a check and service. Diagnostics showed it was restricted which would be expected after 15years of motoring.
Once serviced, returned and re-installed the customer reported significant improvements in power especially on initial acceleration.

Are you having to pull over and manually force regens ? These are just a few symptoms of many signalling an issue that’s not fixing itself. Prevention is the best solution & catching the issue early leads to less time off the road and less inconvenience to your business. Speak to your mechanic like this Isuzu truck owner did. We had the unit tested , serviced and returned ready to get the truck back to work in a couple of days.

It’s never a case of just service the DPF and send it back.
We always make sure to work with the mechanics/vehicle owners to ascertain what caused the DPF to become restricted above a means where the vehicle software can no longer manage the unit.
It can be as simple as driver behaviour or a malfunctioning sensor.
In this case during pre service testing/diagnostics we found a leak on a rigid exhaust pressure line.
This line delivers real-time pressures to a sensor which calculates the state of the filter to assist in managing filter regenerations. In this case erratic pressure readings were leading to regular regenerations which were never successful resulting in a limp mode activation.
If the cause isn’t diagnosed the filter will block again.

We received this inlet manifold after a customer did a clean with a chemical that proved to be too caustic for the soft cast-aluminium. The chemical had eaten away at the surfaces causing it to look damaged beyond repair. We had it repaired and ready to install within a couple of hours using our specialised equipment.

From continual forcing of regenerations , “on vehicle” DPF cleaning , highway driving to replacement with new parts , this customer was recommended everything to fix their Diesel Exhaust After-treatment issues. All of the above caused when they didn’t work, jeopardised their when the vehicle intermittently without warning would activate a limp mode and caused a lot of money to be wasted on gimmick repairs. Fed up they took matters into their own hands finding us on .
Luckily within a day we had the problem rectified utilising years of specialised knowledge and specialist equipment. You wouldn’t go to a dentist to help a knee injury. With vehicles becoming more complex by the minute it’s important that you’re confident you’re getting the correct advice, especially when it comes to a component worth thousands of dollars.

Capped Price Servicing…..hmm More like capped work. This vehicle was in with a DPF issue. During our pre work checks we found the air filter in this condition. When notifying the customer we were told the filter had been checked and deemed acceptable during a capped price service conducted a few hundred kms ago interstate. DPF blockages and flow restrictions are inconvenient and costly. Even a meticulously maintained vehicle can suffer these issues at no fault to the owner. FTC has been studied and proven by the UWA energy centre to reduce particulates in exhaust gases by 39%!! We can’t recommend this additive enough with great results achieved with ongoing use for diesel and also petrol engines.

Accurate diagnostics is paramount in rectifying issues with engine and exhaust after treatment systems. Unfortunately a common occurrence we are finding is a quick “FIX” by resetting the information relating to the exhaust after/treatment systems to be able to force a regeneration burn.
This is not only dangerous but will 100% cause more damage to the components resulting in a expensive repair bill that could of been avoided.
Here is an example of a vehicle showing an acceptable pressure reading via the ecu at over 2000rpm of under 40mbar or 4kpa.
When then compared to an analog comparison the true pressure was 275mbar at IDLE! Further investigation found the DPF to be damaged to a point of requiring replacement.
These are not cheap parts and the consequences of mismanagement are only negative. #
