Followers would be well aware of the effort SQP put into the LS/LT hybrid concept.

The major motivation was the superior engineering ofthe Harrop LT Blower with its dual coolers and clearshot air path to the port entry.

Edelbrock debut their vision at PRI last year. Here it is this year as a production ready item.

So many boxes ticked!!

Simply don't know how many times SQP has posted that LS3 are one of our favourite engines. Going high 11s with bolts ons and then 10.99/123.56 with a cam only std LS3 with Project VFII back in 2018 certainly cemented their status around this shop!

But this post is about Franko's Calais. One of the products SQP is extremely proud of that was an off shoot of the Project VF and VFII was the exhaust system SQP developed with MANTA Performance for VE/VF. Based off the tried and true DPE 1 3/4" 4-1 headers SQP build our own 3" cats with a custom 3" cat back by MANTA that was shortened to allow for a straighter flow path in the design. It worked so well that MANTA dropped their own part numbers and it is the unit in their catalogue today!!

Onto Franko's car this system went with a Harrop Engineering OTR as the only induction upgrade. Some careful tuning on the SQP Dyno Dynamic dyno resulted in.... wait for it.... 417.4hp being put to the rollers- backed with 413.9hp straight after! Simply outstanding power!!

Trans tune was also updated to SQP's tried and true calibration. RESULT? A superb driving car that was ENHANCED with the selected mods to only take it to another level of awesomeness!!

Thanks to all those that took a shot at the final number and damn it was CLOSE! Some nice guesses but Neil Pechar is the WINNER with 417hp on the nose! Drop us an email Neil and we will get this posted out to you.

Very special piece of Aussie automotive history in today for a SQP Stage One Upgrade Package.

Based on near 20 years of VE/VF experience and validated in SQP's Project VF Chronicles, this LS3 gets DPE 13/4" 4 into 1 headers, SQP/MANTA high flow 3" cats and then into the SQP/MANTA 3"cat back. All in staino!

Harrop Mafless OTR with SQP tuning bring it together.

The 6500km old Calais Director put 319rwhp down to the rollers.

Last comp of the year guys and for a SQP sticker and stubby holder pack...

What will it made modded and tuned?? Closest to the mark WINS!!

Another racer SQP has a long relationship with is Matt Carey. Some 12 years back Matt called SQP wanting to get some power into his L98 VZ ute. A package was discussed and the ute shipped down from Tom Price in the WA Pilbara for the work to begin. The transport company dropped it off after asking where to park it leaving the keys. End of day came and time to lock it away and when I got in I was shocked to find it fitted with hand controls.

Next day Matt called to make sure his ute arrived ok. After I told him it was all good I went on to ask "hate to ask a rude question but what is the go with the hand controls?" Matt replied that he had come off a trailbike and that was the last time he walked. He finished relaying what had happened with "but we still try and have a bit of fun!"

Well it was job on and the 6L removed from the VZ with a build undertaken to strenghten the bottom end for boost. SRP Forged flat tops were installed with Compstar rods and other supporting items like SQ53 camshaft for great manners. A Maggy 2300 blower fitted up with fuel system upgraded and a tidy 550rwhp was seen at the rears through the 4L65E trans.

Matt had some great fun with it straight up but the 4L65E soon left the chat. SQP then converted the car over to a 4L80E. Now Matt having limited mobility and hand use required that the trans shift full Automatic. Challenge accepted and with many hours of coding SQP was able to get the GM E38 engine controller providing all data etc to the factory fitted GM T42 trans controller to operated the 4L80E through the factory fitted wiring harness etc and hardware.

Back to Matt having fun ... well nothing holds him back and with the support of his Dad Russ and a bunch of good mates, he each and every year heads to the East Coast to participate in STREET MACHINE Drag Challenge. Each and every year he has honed his skills despite having very limited track access being from Tom Price. And this year...

MATT WON THE DYO SECTION OF THE EVENT! AFTER FIVE DAYS AND THOUSANDS OF KM TRAVELLING BETWEEN TRACKS MATT WAS THE MOST CONSISTANT RACER OUT OF OVER 70 ENTRANTS!!

A MASSIVE congratulations Wheels (SQPs shop Nick name for Matt)!

In a World full of excuses you take no prisoners!!

Congrats to Russ and Matts Mum and all those that support him to reach this goal!

This isn't the first time a SQP tuned GM factory controller car has won DYO Street Machine Drag Challenge but it is the most satisfying by far!

Sorry Sponsor VCM/HPTuners...this one is tuned with EFILive !!

SQP works with many shops and racers throughout Australia. And indeed the WORLD.

But none is keener than our long term friend Darren Parker out of Melbourne Australia.

After struggling to keep a belt alive on his COPO Commodore with its Magnussen 2650 COPO blower, SQP pushed him to revise the drive in the SQP way. Outcome?

Have a listen to the SQP spec 427" LS at 8500 rpm as the chute pops out on a 8.07 second 171mph pass!!

Great stuff Darren! That 7 is only 2 psi away!! LOL!

So following on from the insight SQP gave into countless hours of prep that goes into building and high end race engine, we thought it would be cool to show you what is involved in preparing a set of pistons.

Keeping in mind that both intake and exhaust valves are open as the piston comes to top dead centre with the exhaust closing while the intake opening, it needs to be understood the effect the crown of the piston has on airflow dynamics. Steep, sharp angles cause turbulence hindering flow into and out of the valves. Then when the piston is coming towards top dead on the compression stroke, the shape of the done hinders flame propagation once the charge is lit.

Last video we looked at the chamber. This one is what faces the chamber and what is on the other side of the valve .

Old school skills are something that take years to learn and perfect. Knowing what you are looking at and what is needed is a skill set that doesn't come easy.

In an era where copy and paste CNC machines see modern engine builders buy their cylinder heads with little understanding of what is required to build a top rated product. There was a time when any real performance engine shop had a flow bench as essential equipment in the pursuit of power. It is a rare item now as are the skill sets to develop cylinder heads in house. How do you know if you don't flow??

SQP has reworked cylinder heads from many high end cylinder head shops. Names like Brad Andersen. Mike Chapman. Kenny Weld. Ronny Shaver. CFE. Craig Pulman. We have had them all over the flow bench and reworked and refreshed them all. One thing for certain...an off the CNC cylinder head will ALWAYS be improved with the right skill set and hand finishing.

SQP made this quick video to give guys an insight into what it takes to bring the highest level of performance to our customers. N/A power is skills. Not another pound of boost!
