The only thing missing on this rig is a flamethrower and a set of zoomies 🔥☠️

Now the newest addition to the OZEX Sierra fleet, it’s ready for remote tracks, soil sampling, and whatever the Outback throws at it 🧪⛏️

It might look a little Mad Max, but when your job takes you hundreds of kilometres from the nearest workshop, dependable beats pretty every time.

It wasn’t much of a surprise when Jono from OZEX, who is a big fan of these small zooks, brought us another Sierra to work on. What started as a request for a 50mm lift and rear locker quickly turned into an extensive ‘need’ list more than a ‘want’ list, to build a reliable (and hellish) outback explorer.

The Sierra received a new clutch and clutch cable, swivel hubs and wheel bearing overhaul, brand new front brake system callipers, pads and rotors, all new cooling system components, and a 3K Corolla carb conversion. Plus we also fitted a new air box and bonnet-mounted thermo fans to help keep things cool on long days in the red dirt.

More to come… ☠️

Time Capsule Series | Mighty Boy

You know what seems like a really fun and useful vehicle to have? A Suzuki Mighty Boy. At first glance, it seems sort of absurd, a tiny, Kei-sized trucklet with a tray that made a Holden One Tonner look like a road train. But that’s exactly what made it so memorable.

The Mighty Boy actually began life as the Suzuki Cervo, a stylish early-‘80s coupe. Sharing its platform with the Alto and Fronte, Suzuki transformed it by removing the rear seats and creating a compact cargo tray, resulting in one of the most unconventional utes ever built.

Produced by Suzuki Japan from 1983 to 1988, in the Kei era of microcars, the Mighty Boy stood out as the only 550cc coupe-utility on the market. In both Japan and Australia, it was classified as a commercial vehicle, benefiting from lower taxes, and even found work delivering pizzas for Domino’s.

When it arrived in Australia in 1985, not only was it the cheapest new vehicle on the market, but it was also one of the first vehicles introduced to support the nation’s transition to unleaded petrol (ULP), which was rolled out nationally in 1986. However, despite its affordability and charm, buyers often chose more practical alternatives. Slow sales meant production ended in 1987, with remaining stock sold through 1988.

What was once seen as quirky and impractical has since become a cult classic. Australia’s love affair with utes eventually embraced the Mighty Boy, and today these tiny utes live on as show cars, race cars, engine-swapped builds, and cherished collectors’ items

Mark bought his Maruti in to build it exactly how he wants it 🔧

We gave it a full service then got stuck into a dual battery setup 🔋We installed a smart charger tucked under the passenger seat and shifted all the accessories over so it’s ready to handle whatever gets thrown at it 💪🏻

On the rear, we fitted toolboxes to the headboard and interior wise we fitted a JB43 centre console with the much sort after cupholders, and a high tech tachometer gauge 🔥

It’s the small touches that make a big difference to usability, whether it’s heading off-road or simply enjoying the drive.

A bit of a rare sight in the workshop 👀

This Suzuki Escudo soft top is the JDM cousin to our Vitara and it kept the Escudo name right up until 2024.

Instead of the carb setup we got in early Vitaras, this G16A runs Centre Point Injection - basically a computer-controlled carb with a single injector in the throttle body. It was designed to meet Japan’s stricter emissions rules, while keeping things simple.
Pretty cool bit of early EFI tech.

Erinn’s recently purchased Escudo came in for a fresh service and a Tough Dog 35mm lift kit installation, giving it a little extra clearance and getting it ready for plenty of adventures with its new owner 🔧🏕️

Welcome to the Zook Family 😎
