If you love being on the water, love boats, and want to show up to work at one of Perth’s best boatyards every day, this one’s for you.

We’re looking for a Boat Yard Hand to join the SFM Marine team. It’s a hands-on role involving pressure washing, vessel handling, assisting trades, operating lifting equipment and keeping the yard running to the standard we’re known for.

Monday to Friday, 7am to 3:30pm. Around 40 hours a week, with the opportunity to go full time for the right person.

You’ll need a forklift licence, a manual driver’s licence and a genuine passion for all things marine. Experience with a travel lift is a bonus, but we’ll train the right person.

As this vessel was lifted from the hardstand to the shed, our yard team closely montiors the movement, including from a scissor lift ensuring sufficient overhead clearance. One of the many checks ensuring safe and efficient operations.

For commercial operators, marine contractors and vessel owners alike, reducing risk and avoiding unnecessary delays is critical. Providing the facilities, equipment and experienced personnel to support that process is an important part of what we do.

We’ve had a special visitor at SFM Marine recently — a female southern elephant seal believed to have travelled from sub-Antarctic waters, taking a well-earned rest during her journey. A very rare sighting for Fremantle.
Thanks to insights from Minderoo Foundation Senior Strategic Advisor, Dr Steve Burnell, we were able to learn more about her likely origin, behaviour, and migration patterns, turning a chance encounter into a reminder of how connected our coastline is to the wider Southern Ocean ecosystem.
Moments like this reinforce the importance of environmental stewardship across our operations. Sharing our waterfront with wildlife is a privilege, and we remain committed to responsible marine practices that help protect these unique environments for future generations.
