Referees are often the first to be criticised and the last to be thanked, but without them there simply isn’t a game.

A huge thank you to every referee who gave up their time across today’s Willagee Bears vs Alkimos Tigers fixtures. Your commitment allows our players, coaches, volunteers and supporters to enjoy the game we all love.

A special mention to Tee Tangatatutai, who took the time during the Women’s League Tag match to bring both teams together and explain exactly what he was looking for in different situations. Rather than just blowing the whistle, he educated the players, gave practical examples, and helped everyone better understand the rules and expectations.

That sort of communication doesn’t just improve one game—it helps develop players, builds respect, and makes the competition better for everyone.

Thank you to Tee and to all of our referees. Your time, effort and professionalism don’t go unnoticed.

50 Years of Deadly. ❤️🖤💛

It was an honour for OutWest to capture the smoking ceremony before First Grade as the Willagee Bears and South Perth Lions came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 – 50 Years of Deadly.

A huge thank you to the Willagee Bears Rugby League Club for embracing the occasion, from the incredible NAIDOC 2026 field artwork to creating a day that celebrated culture, community and rugby league. Thanks to The Line King

Thank you to Uncle Trevor from Goolamwiin for leading the smoking ceremony and sharing such a powerful cultural experience. Your welcome and blessing made the day even more meaningful.

A special thank you to the South Perth Lions for joining in the celebration and helping honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

A big shout-out to Local Media Services Co. (LMSC) for broadcasting the day’s action live on YouTube, including the smoking ceremony, allowing so many more people to experience this special moment. Thank you to the entire production crew and commentary team for helping share the significance of the day with the wider community.

Finally, thank you to NRLWA for continuing to champion Indigenous Round across the competition. These rounds are an important opportunity to celebrate culture, educate communities, and bring people together through rugby league.

A hard-earned win for our Women’s League Tag side, overcoming the Willagee Bears 10-6 in a tough contest at Treeby Reserve on MND Round. 🐓❤️

It was a physical, defensive battle from start to finish, with both teams refusing to give an inch. The girls showed plenty of resilience and composure in the key moments to come away with the two competition points.

A great team performance built on determination, effort and defence.

Special thanks to everyone who came down to support MND Round and help raise awareness for such an important cause.
