We are looking at employing a first year Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Who are we looking for??
We are seeking a motivated person who is a team player. Ideally completing a mechanical vet program.
The student should also be completing Maths and English.
The candidate must LOVE this industry and type of work – its hot, dirty and heavy. AND we CAN NOT change any of these aspects of the job. At times the job is challenging with deadlines to meet, but rewarding in the results of completing a job like an engine rebuild. You MUST have pride in what you do regardless of how small a task you are given.
If successful we would expect the applicant to be available to work outside of normal trading hours when break downs occur or overtime becomes a necessity.
Desirable but not essential at this stage – drivers licence – candidate should be setting a goal to get their L’s or P’s, as driving is apart of this job.

As an option, we invite students who would prefer to do a work experience placement rather than an interview to contact us. You will need to discuss with your school to cover you with work placement insurance for this week. We feel a weeks work experience gives the student an idea of our work place and if they actually would like to work with us, and gives us a better understanding of the student.
Students who are interested should send a resume and cover letter to Charlene Scott
[email protected]
If you are limited to particular dates please note them in your cover letter.
During the weeks work experience we would expect the students to be available to work our trading hours 8-5pm. If they have part time jobs and need to leave early they should discuss this with us before they commence as a courtesy. They should note there is unfortunately no public transport around this area. There is a small café 10 minutes walking distance, so we recommend they bring their lunch, we have a fridge, microwave, sandwich toaster and small oven. The student must have work boots and ideally HiVis workwear. Long hair must be tied up at all times. Due to the nature of work – jewellery is not recommended.

Those people unable to do work placement are still invited to send through an application.

We will supply work wear and boots, trade books and a tool loan to the successful candidate. Trade school is conducted at the CDU - 4 x 2 weeks training blocks each year.

Diesel Mechanics servicing trucks, trailers, roadtrains, dollys, marine, and earth moving equipment. Call (08) 8931 4039.
